Guest guest
It's *insane* trying to make melt-and-pour soaps with two toddlers in tow. I thought that you guys would find this story humorous. I'm trying to make some soaps and bath salts as gifts for both a friend's baby shower and for a friend's first Mothers' Day, to pamper herself a little bit. So a few days ago, I got the molds out and all of the other supplies that I would need. (Gotta plan ahead!) Put them high up and out of reach of our children. Then today, I decided to make the soaps at our kitchen island. First, as I was melting some chunks of soap base, Toddler #1 decided that he wanted to make coffee all by himself. So I had to pause, pick up the spilled coffee grounds with a paper towel, clean up the floor, and resume what I was doing. As I was adding the fragrance oil, Toddler #2 started crying because the cuff of her jeans got caught on a toy in our living room. I had to go rescue and comfort her. Then, I went back to stirring the melted soap and pouring it into the molds. That's when Toddler #1 took one of his wind-up cars and zoomed it across our kitchen island, bumping my molds and spilling melted soap everywhere (although not on HIM or ME, which was a blessing!). But I had to clean that up and then redo the soaps. Then, as I was stirring up a batch of bath salts, I paused to give Toddler #2 some warm milk and take her upstairs for her nap. While I was gone, Toddler #1 decided that he wanted to go play outside, so I had to run back downstairs quickly to make sure that he didn't just walk out the front door (we haven't childproofed that doorknob yet). So I put a jacket, socks, and shoes on Toddler #1 and told him to play outside close to the house where I could see him (which he obeyed, thankfully!). So I'm mixing up the bath salts and spooning them into cute little bags ~ all the while watching Toddler #1 out the kitchen window. Halfway through pouring the bath salts, he knocks on the door and yells at the top of his lungs, " HEY, MOMMY??? " I go crazy, thinking that he's got a serious problem, when actually all he wants is for me to come outside because his orange car is stuck in the mud. So I quit what I'm doing, put on my jacket and shoes, and go outside to rescue Orange Car. He wants me to play with him outside for a while, so I do. We walk down the driveway and get the mail, too. Finally, after a while, we come back inside, take off our jackets and shoes, and he goes upstairs to watch TV. And I continue putting the bath salts into the bags. But now that I've finished, I have to clean up the kitchen. As I'm putting away the fragrance oils and other supplies, I think to myself, " He's just WAY too quiet up there. " I assume that he's doing something bad. So, I pause cleaning and run upstairs to check on him. Sure enough, he has found some Play-Doh somewhere (?) and is pulling off little pieces of it and throwing them all over our bonus room. After I clean up that mess, we go back downstairs. I'm almost done cleaning up when he says, " Mommy! I'm hungry! " We've just had lunch, so that's strange. But anyway, I fix him a little bite to eat and sit him at the kitchen island. Then, I finish cleaning everything up. But I have to clean off our kitchen island a *second* time because he has gotten food everywhere. hehe So then, I tie pretty raffia onto the bags of bath salts (quickly, because Toddler #2 will be waking up from her nap soon), and Toddler #1 wants to go upstairs and watch TV again. So I hurry up and clean, and now here we are .... watching cartoons upstairs. And I'm about to get Toddler #2 up from her nap. Oh goodness ... this is why I don't really have much time to do soapmaking anymore ... LOL! ~nne [blog] http://bathtubjunkie.net/

Guest guest
I agree there. I've got a husband who gets under foot when I'm soaping too. I usually start by standing in the kitchen doorway and making an announcement that I am going to be making soap so anyone who needs something from the kitchen better get it now or else they are not entering until I'm done. LOL! It never works!!! Colleen http://www.countrymeadowcreations.com > > LOL yea.
