Guest guest
I'm asking if any of you out there have a strategy to take " normal " supplements such as vitamins, minerals, herbs, omega-3's, etc. --when you are using cholestyramine (CSM) to remove biotoxins. According to the package insert (see below), it seems the only way to take your normal supplements is to do that ONE HOUR before your morning CSM dose. And since you can't eat any food before your first morning CSM dose, that means for example, waking at 6 AM, taking your supplements, then waiting until 7 AM, then take the first CSM of the day, wait another half-hour, then eat breakfast. Whew. This just seems like a lot of work! It might be easier waking in the middle of the night, say at 2 or 3 AM, gobbling your supplements, then going back to bed! Some things the package insert states: " Cholestyramine interferes with the absorption of fat soluable vitamins such as A, D, E, and K. " [and I assume Omega-3 fat supplements.] " SINCE CHOLESTYRAMINE MAY BIND OTHER DRUGS GIVEN CONCURRENTLY, IT IS RECOMMENDED THAT PATIENTS TAKE OTHER DRUGS AT LEAST 1 HOUR _BEFORE_ OR 4 TO 6 HOURS _AFTER_ CHOLESTYRAMINE (OR AT AS GREAT AN INTERVAL AS POSSIBLE) TO AVOID IMPEDING THEIR ABSORPTION. " In other words, once you start your day CSM doses, you really CAN'T effectively take other supplements during your waking hours since the 4 to 6 hour window is in effect. Shoemaker's CSM protocol states: " You may wish to take a multiple vitamin with minerals if you will be taking CSM for an extended period of time. " What about those of us who used to take antioxidants throughout the day, such as vitamin C, or alpha lipoic acid, or vitamin E? --Bill Croft
