This time, an 11-year-old Port Orchard girl convinced ABC producers to build her family a new home. Jael Kirkwood even called others selected for the show to get their advice and asked Port Orchard's mayor to put in a good word for her. Thursday, Home Makeover started work at the house on Spruce Road outside Port Orchard. r Gracey came to watch. " I think it's amazing how they're doing this in a matter of hours. " His brother Gracey said, " This went by really fast. They had four excavators which took them about 30 minutes and that whole house is down. " It's a job only Extreme Makeover could do. The show's host, Ty Pennington, was in the middle of it all as crews tore down the Port Orchard home in 30 minutes. They will build a new house right next to it by Tuesday, when the Kirkwood family returns from a vacation at Disney World. That's four days for a job the local builder says typically takes 5 to 6 months. He admits there's a bit of pressure: " Oh very much so. Building a house in four days will be a tremendous experience. Very difficult, " said Matt Howland of Howland Homes out of Seattle. Ty Pennington wore a gas mask for some of the shooting. That's because the house was taken over by hazardous black mold. It also had exposed wiring and open walls because a contractor skipped out on the Kirkwood family. Every bit of work and material to build the new home is donated. " It is very exciting to be able to do something for them, " said Howland. " The community has been rallying around them because of who they are and what they've contributed to the community. The public is invited to watch the renovation. The home is located at 1366 SE Spruce Road in Port Orchard. Kitsap Transit is running continuous shuttles from Horseshoe Lake County Park (15931 Sidney Road SW, Port Orchard) to the construction site from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. through Wednesday November 16th. The unveiling of the new house is set for Tuesday, November 15th. For More Information: www.visitkitsap.com.
