Guest guest
I think that people in this situation have to watch out for what is called 'learned helpnessness' (look it up) It's a typical reaction, but one which can cause problems in life. People in this situation should take whatever steps they need to take to address as much of the problem as is possible the problem for themselves. Otherwise, they encounter the situation social scientist Irving Janis described as " Groupthink " . The PARALYSIS caused by obsessively self-absorbed 'cover your ass' behavior by bureaucrats. Kind of like the Katrina scenario. (But the real JOBs of these people are IGNORED.) The results can be disasterous.. So people need to protect themselves and not wait for help from others. It may never come. Kind of like Social Security. You just KNOW that they WILL find a way. " Oops, I stole your retirement. Sorry! Here's a candy " For example, children attending moldy schools need to wear respirators and the appropriate hazmat clothing, bought at their parents expense. Residents in public housing should pay their subsidized rent, fix these problems themselves, and send a bill to the management and keep a copy, and then bring it up in small claims court. (after giving them an appropriate amount of time, say 48 hours, to fix it themselves) Otherwise, they *will* get evicted.. The system is stacked against them. Don't they see how hopeless changing the system is? Do they really want to even try? Its almost impossible in the current economic climate. (Actual people mean less and less to both corporations - the real rulers - and government as their value as potential worker bees declines with the advent of new technologies and globalization. Eventually, things may get nasty as the powers that be feel increasingly threatened by troublemakers and the 'genetically impure'. Read up a bit on fascism.) Likewise, people might - under this new feudalism, just assume that the government and their employers will not help them for anything - especially not anything that costs money - so they can be pleasantly surprised when they occasionally do. Guest guest
Write a written complaint and then if it isn't fixed in 24 hours make a formal complaint to your citys building inspectors. (assuming you rent) Hot water is a necessity, not a luxury. Dont withold rent, but do make a formal, written complaint, and they will be forced to ensure that you have hot and cold water, and heat, at all times..its necessary.
