``Slum Lord'' Lawsuits to Be Filed and Announced at News Conference,

Dec. 8

--(BUSINESS WIRE)----

There is no joy during the holidays for residents of five Los

Angeles-area apartment buildings who profess to live in conditions

marked by rat, vermin and cockroach infestation; mold; no heat or hot

water; leaky roofs; inoperable toilets; defective fire escapes and

smoke detectors; among a myriad of other problems. On December 8,

" slumlord " lawsuits will be filed against the ownership and

management

of the five residential complexes -- three of which are located in

the

Pico Union area of Los Angeles, one in the Southside of downtown Los

Angeles and another in Inglewood -- for breach of warranty

habitability (unfit place to live), negligence and infliction of

emotional distress.According to Attorney E. Castelblanco, the

lawsuits are part of a

broader campaign to clean up Los Angeles in order to protect the

health and welfare of low-income families, as well as to crack down

on

and hold accountable the " predators " who force them to live in such

an

intolerable environment. At 11 a.m. on December 8, immediately

following the filing of the lawsuits, a news conference will be held

at one of the decaying buildings. At the conference, residents will

air their grievances and attorneys will provide information on the

lawsuits. Pertinent details are as follows:WHEN: Thursday,
