Guest guest
Yes comfrey can be frozen. Best way would be to chop and add a bit of water and put in ice cube trays and freeze. This way you can take out what you need and not have to defrost a whole bunch! Have a great day! Daughter Gretchen wants to know if we can freeze fresh comfrey leaves. I have some dried and I've infused some. but since she was given the fresh for an injury she'd like to have some on hand during the winter months. Came through my surgery OK. Had a problem waking up. Am home now and thinking of making product but I get so tired. Maybe tomorrow... Jeanine Jeanine's Hummingbird Soap Works
Guest guest
Jeanine, I haven't done it, but you made me think. If I were to do it, I'd probably make a thick puree' with the leaves and freeze that in an ice cube tray. Once they freeze, keep them in a zip-loc freezer bag to use as needed. The puree' could be made with either water or oil. I'm glad you're OK. I've been thinking about you and was going to email you yesterday, but it got away from me. Take your time recuperating. So, you didn't want to wake up when it was over? I think you must need the rest, then. ;-) Beth www.SoapAndGarden.com In a message dated 09/18/08 10:53:21 Eastern Daylight Time, jlv40@... writes: Help!! Guest guest
Thanks Sherri, Will have Gretchen 'harvest' what she wants. The ice cubes seem like a great idea. Guest guest
Hi Beth, Hope the blender will accommodate the leaves. I'll take out the larger veins before pureeing. Might be the sleep I needed or I'm thinking--too many drugs..... Jeanine Jeanine's Hummingbird Soap Works Re: freezing comfrey Jeanine, I haven't done it, but you made me think. Guest guest
Can you just freeze the leaves? Last year I picked a lot and hung to dry and they still got moldy after I bagged them up. And they were crispy dry too. I guess there must have still been moisture in the stems wich I didnt know to remove at the time . Guest guest
Thanks Shaye, Planning on making cuticle balm today. Always a good seller at the holiday shows. I did cancel the ton show for next week. Val volunteered to do it but that was asking too much of family. I was lucky and the promoters refunded all my money with no penalty. Val does stop in every day and will get my supplies from the cellar and/or the upstairs soap (bed) room. TTYL. I'm going to go outside today, weather is gorgeous, to harvest my comfrey leaves and then make the slurry for freezing. Jeanine Jeanine's Hummingbird Soap Works freezing comfrey Help!! Guest guest
Hi Everyone, You could just freeze the leaves if you wanted to and then chop them up for later use, but I find the " pre " blended version easier and quicker to use. They would be great used for poultices too, but they can't be turned into an oil infusion as there is too much water that stays within the plant especially after freezing. Have a great day! Enjoy Sherri _____ From: [mailto: ] On Behalf Of Shaye Sent: Friday, September 19, 2008 8:40 AM Subject: RE: freezing comfrey Can you just freeze the leaves? Guest guest
Thanks for the heads up about the water. So, you think just pureeing with a bit of extra water is the way to go?
