Healthy homes experts,

I'm a freelance writer writing articles about home building for my local

newspaper. I may write a BRIEF sidebar about mold PREVENTION. However, these

articles are supposed to be " positive " because they're for a publication about

the tour of homes/home show. In other words, these are not investigative

journalism pieces. (I just see this as an opportunity to pop in some info that

could help people prevent mold. I'm chemically sensitive myself.) Talking about

mold remediation is beyond the scope of these articles.

Questions:

1. What can a person do when building or remodeling a home to prevent mold? (Web

sites are fine.)

2. Have you heard of this " microbe shield technology " listed below? Is it safe,

even for the chemically sensitive? Does it work? Are there other brands, too?

3.) Does the ultraviolet germicidal light mentioned below work? Any negatives to

it?

Info I got from a local company:

" a professionally trained applicator will come into your finished or unfinished

home and spray what is called Aegis Microbe Shield.

What is the AEGIS Microbe Shield technology?

An EPA registered antimicrobial that safely inhibits the growth of bacteria,

mold, mildew, algae and fungus to surfaces to which it is applied.

How does the AEGIS Microbe Shield work?

Aegis kills microbes on contact by physically rupturing microbes followed by an

electrical shock. It never loses it's effectiveness. (No toxic metals, poisons

or gassing)

How long does the AEGIS Microbe Shield last?

The protection will last the life of the surface to which it is applied. Since

1976, the Aegis Microbe Shield has never failed when applied properly!

Is the AEGIS Microbe Shield safe?

Yes. Aegis has a 27 year history of safe and effective use. It is the largest

selling antimicrobial in the world. It is used in schools, homes, hospitals,

libraries and other buildings around the globe to protect against mold and

microbes. It is also used in common products we use everyday including socks,

shoes, sponges, textiles, etc.

_____ also offers other ways to increase your comfort in your home, for instance

adding a humidifier or an ultraviolet germicidal light to your heating and

cooling system. Both of these features can decrease the amount of allergens,

bacteria, and viruses floating through your home.

Thanks so much,

, julie@...
