Guest guest
Franchesca,, thanks for the link to the video on this new home treatment machine. It looks like they have taken the concept of 90/90 lumbar traction and put it into a easy to use home format, and added passive motion to the regime. Looks intriguing. Any body have personal or clinical experience? Hi all, One of my patient's brought this to my attention. I know that passive motion really helped when I recoverd from my knee surgery but that was more to keep scar tissue from forming. With this machine I am not sure it will really do anything and anyone with facet problems might expereince more irritation. Possibly helpful for someon who has gone through a back surgery and doesn't want scar tissue?Just curious what others thought. I know patients will show me lots of different things but if it actually does what it says it does, it could be helpful for some and the wrong choice for others. Guest guest
I agree with Ron Johansen. It seems innovative. It looks like it mimics some motion yoga poses. The only difference being; with the yoga poses, you can't go totally limp during the disc pumping motion. I'm inclined to try one and see if it works as a patient rental unit, or in office simple traction device. Franchesca, contact the company and see if it has FDA approval. Let us know what you find out if you would. (For those of you reading, you may think that since it's sold to the public, it automatically means it has FDA approval. I used to think so. However, I've now discovered that's not the case.) thanks,Minga Guerrero DC In a message dated 9/1/2008 9:13:24 P.M. Guest guest
This looks pretty good. I agree with Minga that the machine mimics an important end-goal of yoga: to increase a patient's capacity for lengthening the lumbar spine in a relaxed manner. While yoga demands that postures be "completely at ease," this machine appears to accomplish that requirement. The question remains, however, does the patient learn how to carry that relaxation into gravity, or do the compensatory holding patterns that characterize chronic LBP resume when entering gravity? The testimonials imply that it does work bearing weight, but who knows yet? Learning how to deeply relax chronic holding patterns born of pain is very rewarding, but whether this learning can occur passively via a machine remains unanswered. Learning to let go of chronic tensions is more complicated than letting a machine work on you, requiring the ability to be alert to body sensations but emotionally and physically detached from them at the same time.It should also be mentioned here that rotational and lateral bending vectors are equally important in restoration of LBP and are present in almost every case. Vertical traction by machine cannot satisfy the need for movement in these critical angles as well. Sears, DCNW PDX On Sep 2, 2008, at 11:37 AM, AboWoman@... wrote:I agree with Ron Johansen.
