Guest guest
If anyone has information about FUSARIUM, please post it. Six to seven weeks ago, I took toe nail clippings to my doctor, to send to the lab, because I had something (looked like a fungus) growing under 3 of my nails. Just got back from doctor's office and am very upset, because she had the lab results, and told me, it is Fusarium, that is growing under my nails, and doctor said she has never had a patient with that type of a fungus growing under their nails. She said she’s going to have to check it out, before giving me something for it, because she does not think Lamisil will work on that type of fungi. Guest guest
Try: http://www.doctorfungus.org/thefungi/fusarium.htm I think voriconazole (VFend) would be the safest of the antifungals that have the most activity. Amophotericn B has to be given IV and is extremely toxic. I don't think Sporonox or Lamasil will work on this. I have a lot of information on Fusarium; can send later if you wish; most of my information is from toxins produced by it though, which is what I think my exposure was. Do you know if you have been exposed to Fusariu. I hope this helps. Kathyw Barbara <floridabound03200@...> wrote: If anyone has information about FUSARIUM, please post it. Guest guest
Hi Kathy, I just checked out doctorfungus.org and after reading where it stated, " Fusarium infections are difficult to treat and the invasive forms are often fatal, " I don't know what to think. How do I know if I have the invasive form? How do I know if I have it in any other part of my body? I'm so sick all the time, I really wonder if it's only on my toe nails. You said you have a lot of information on Fusarium. I would love to have it, if it wouldn't be too much trouble. When it comes to being exposed to Fusarium, all I can tell you is, shortly after I moved into this " mold-pit, " which is also known as an apt. building for low-income seniors, I started to get sick, and I took samples from my apt., as well as from other parts of the building, and from the exhaust fans that are located in the cement right outside my apt. windows. Those fans exhaust air from the basement, and the lab results showed Fusarium was on those fans. Thanks for your help. Guest guest
Barbara, Wow!! That sounds so familiar I will send you some information privately later on tonight or after Thanksgiving. I'm wanting to spend some quality time with my family and am trying to cook and get ready, because this is the first time in 3 years I've felt like doing it. I just wanted to give you a quick response. I would tend to think that the Fusarium is not systemic or you would be so ill that you would have to be hospitalized and be running a high fever, etc. So, try to relax and not think about it until you can get it diagnosed. I think that blood cultures for Fusarium would be the best first step to make sure it is not in your bloodstream before you start any antifungal unless you get really ill before that. They can also do sensitivities to see which antifungals would work best. I'm not a doctor, but I've done a lot of reasearch on this and again the voriconazole seems to be the most effective of the less toxic drugs for it. If it is just in the toenails (and it can very often just be a superficial infection), I don't know if going the systemic route would be the right choice or if they can use some kind of topical treatment, but I would definitely ask for the blood cultures.
