What do people use for window coverings?

I am currently in the process of trying to clean up and de-mold (as much as

possible) my apartment, and one of the things that has to go are these

mini-blinds that I have had for a long time. They seem to accumulate dirt

(and mold) like magnets. I am getting sick of washing them only to have them

gunk up again in what seems like only four or five months. They get so dirty

I have to wash them in the bathtub with a sprayer.. (actually, I use an old

Water Pik for stuff like that..)

I can't just put up curtains because I am afreaid that they will also

accumulate dust.

What do people use for privacy and allowing in light that won't also become

a mold problem? I live not too far from a busy street, on a moderate hill,

and there is a fair amount of uphill traffic, so we get our share of black

gunky dust. (which outside, according to air testing, doesn't have mold

spores in it, its just black dirt

Someone has got to have the ideal solution.. I don't want to just cover the

windows with hanging fabric.. hippie style.. Not only is it not appropriate

for my (middle to upper income - sigh) neighborhood.. it wont be easy to

clean. Easyness of cleaning and light access is my #1 priority.
