Guest guest
Any flu shot is a gamble. The cdc sends people to the Orient to check out which flu bugs people are getting, then they will make a vaccine based on the results of the research. Which flu bugs are actually going to end up making people sick may be different than the best guess of the cdc. And the time lag is about a year, last time I checked. Which is why some years, the flu shots are worthless. However, it is still big business, making and selling, and the fearmongering to make people think that a flu shot is the same as a shot for Measles. They can be dangerous, and they won't tell you that. When they first came out, they were using a live virus vaccine, and my Granduncle almost died from the flu that he got from the shot. After several people died, they stopped using the live vaccine, and I believe now they only use a killed version. My aunt pushed him to get it- she was from the generation that saw their families die from things like tetanus, and whooping cough. And the old vaccines were much safer than dying from the disease. But as a preventive measure for a thing such as a normal flu bug, I do not agree that the risk is worth it, generally. And who knows how bad the bird flu is, anyway? China does not freely release their data, and they have a very spotty record when it comes to taking care of the masses. Not to mention how to know about the collection of data. It is my impression that most people use their chinese herbalists, and only use the hospitals when nothing else is working. So the data are likely to be skewed towards the extreme end of death. As far as a medicine to help ward off the worst effects of things like this, there have been numerous ones for years, like Vitamin C, back in the 70's, and now some over the counter vitamin type prep to take when flying. I have used a chinese remedy successfully, called Gan Mao Ling to ward off colds. It worked, except when I had a mold infection which was symptomatically identical to the flu, and I was confused at the time as to why it did not work. There are also some homeopathic remedies some people use for warding off illness, too.
