Guest guest
: A Pettibon practitioner, such as Carl Bonofiglio, should be able to give you a treatment protocol for a lumbar retrolisthesis, if that's the area the retrolisthesis is in. However, if Carl is like me, he may not be too anxious to talk a N.D. through any type of chiropractic treatment unless the N.D. is a D.C./N.D. Lyndon McGill, D.C. Guest guest
Along the lines of “no idea is a bad idea”: The doctor may also elect to come to the patient’s home to suggest gray patterned Formica table tops, red vinyl kitchen chairs, set off by black and white checkered floor tiles, to complete the RETRO ensemble. Guest guest
Have (assuming) lumbar flexion/extension motion study been done, so you can see where you're starting? Or, has a conservative neuro consult been performed to R/O surgery? What is the age of pt and general health status? Is the hx of the retrolisthesis contributive? You recall from sagittal positive postural study that lumbar kyphosis is poorly tolerated, is this retro (lumbar?) accompanied with significant head forward? Is the LE paresthesia unilateral, progressive, or waning? Correcting for the complications of positive sagittal balance can be reversed by a daily practice of lying prone on the floor with the spinal curves flattened. This is assisted by propping the knees up achieving a generally 90/90 bend at knees and hips, the arms externally rotated flattening the shoulder blades, and the back of the neck gently lengthened by tucking the chin (Shavasana, or Corpse Pose). Resting with a relaxing breath for 15 minutes per day in this position will help with plastic reformation. Combining this straight spine with a few simple changes in posture to work the tight angles around it would be more helpful.Pts live with antero and retrolistheses. It's a process usually involving daily attention if one wants to feel good; less about heroic efforts from someone else.Best of luck....
