Guest guest
Hi Patsy - I am not sure if you mean only olive oil OR olive oil as your main oil. There are recipes for both. An all olive oil recipe is the rather more difficult one to make and the quality is not as nice as if you were to add, let's say some palm oil and some coconut oil and ohhhh, some shea butter. Let me know what you're looking for. Namaste - Lynette of Terralyn in Philadelphia, PA

TIA, Patsy > > > Hi, I love pure 100% Castile soap. Here is the recipe I use. 14 ounces tepid water 5.5 ounces lye 40 ounces olive oil Blend water and lye. Set aside and cool to 120 (F). Heat oil to 120 (F). Mix when both 120 (F). Stir until trace. Pour into mold. Insulate to keep warm. Cure for 8 to 10 weeks. What I have found is that 100% oilve oil soap takes a long time to trace. I stir until I have a light trace and then pour into mold. I have read some directions that say to stir for an hour and then " assume " you have a trace and pout into the mold. I have also done it that way very successfully. When make Castile soap, oil will float to the top of the mold. Twice a day, I stir the soap mixture until all the oil is once again blended into the rest of the mixture. It usually takes 2 days before the soap stops separating and sets up firm. This is wonderful soap, so don't let the oddness of making it scare you. :-) Sage
Guest guest
Good Friday Afternoon! I am working on an olive oil soap and each time I try to pop it out of the mold, it is very sticky. Is the characteristic? I used Coconut and PKO to try to make it a harder bar. My percentages: Castor 4% Coconut 8% Hemp 2% Jojoba 2% Olive 56% PKO 8% Many thanks for any input. Guest guest
In the past when I made castile soap - 100% olive oil - I had to stir it while in the molds for a couple of days, and leave it in the molds for a few days longer than my soap with PO and CO. I want to try it again because of the destruction of tropical forests to plant palm plants for the huge PO market. I wonder if more lye would help? I wish olive oil was not so expensive...it makes such nice soap. Hornak <elizabeth_hornak@...> wrote: Good Friday Afternoon! Guest guest
/ , What type of mold do you use? And do you line it with wax/freeze paper? Also, I've read and heard from other soapers that Castor Oil makes for a slipper, mushy bar. Instead of the oil, you may want to use Castor Wax, which is just hydrogenated Castor oil, it looks like veggie shortening when you purchase it. It melts great, no problem. I've used this product once, in the distant past. I haven't used it again cause the company went out of business and I haven't really looked into who else is carrying it. And I've made 100% olive oil soap at a 5, 7, and 10 percent discount [superfat] and have never had a problem with getting it out of the mold the very next day. I have been able to cut and set it out to cure. Although, I have always traced the olive oil soap to almost thick, thick pudding consistency. Almost like mayo. If you stop at a thin/light trace, you will have to mix it and nurse it along the way. And who wants to babysit soap? Not me. And no, definitely do not add more lye. It will only make the soap lye heavy and unusable for anything other than scrubbing the floors, and they'll have to be concrete at that, 'cause more lye will eat everything else, eventually. I hope this helps. Marisol in Brooklyn Hornak <elizabeth_hornak@...> wrote: Good Friday Afternoon! I am working on an olive oil soap and each time I try to pop it out of the mold, it is very sticky. Guest guest
, Also, are you making a shampoo bar? Is that why you're using the Castor oil? Just curious. Thanks.
