Clean Up Classroom Air Quality

ARLINGTON, Texas, Dec. 22 /PRNewswire/ -- Clean Air

Distributors, Inc.

announced plans to work with Texas schools who have students and

teachers who

are experiencing poor classroom air quality that may be partially

caused by

mold and water damage from the recent hurricanes Katrina and Rita.

The term

" Katrina Cough " has been assigned by media stories, to people who

report

fighting recurring respiratory problems believed to be caused by too

much mold

in the air.

These common respiratory symptoms are elevated in buildings that

have had

water damage from leaks, storms, flooding or plumbing issues,

according to

studies reported by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and

the Centers

for Disease Control (CDC). Increased levels of airborne particulates,

especially mold is believed to be responsible for repeat cases of

Upper

Respiratory Tract Infection (URTI) in children and teachers. The

cost of one

URTI can be $300 to $500 with doctor's office charges, testing,

antibiotics,

retesting and re-check office calls. This can double to $1,000 if

the parent

has to miss two days of work to care for small children staying home

from

school.

The only comprehensive study was conducted over 3 years in a

double-blind

study at day care centers in Europe. By filtering the particulates

out of the

air at 15 air changes per hour, sick day absenteeism was reduced by

55% to

3.7% compared to a more typical 8.4%. The financial payback for

reducing these

common causes of illness in public schools and day care operations

would save

billions of dollars annually, for employers, health insurers and the

government agencies that provide this medical aid.

Clean Air Distributors is the authorized distributor in Texas

for the

patented Purifan Clean Air System, a HEPA Air Cleaner that silently

filters

2,000 cubic feet of air per minute (CFM). Mr. Stan Brannan,

President of Clean

Air Distributors, Inc. of Arlington, Texas, described the impact of

cleaner

classroom air, " We've had teachers report some very impressive

results on

their own personal health, and the health of the children in their

classrooms. " He continued, " Some teachers were able to get off their

allergy

medications for the first time in years, and some students who had

needed a

daily inhaler, and missed a lot of sick days, were so much healthier

they

didn't use their inhalers, or miss any school sick days after the

Purifans

were installed. "

My wife and I got a Whirlpool Whispure HEPA air cleaner for around

$250 that has made a huge difference in our health. It is rated for

being able to clean 1000 sq feet.. The prefilter fills up very quickly

in our apt. It is removing a lot of gunk and that gunk is so reactive

that it makes my whole body freak out if I get it on myself when i'm

cleaning it. Haven't replaced tha main filter yet.

We picked this one because Consumer Reports top rated it. The

electricity is supposed to cost around $60/year. We loeave it on on

low all the time and turn it up when its gusty or we are vaccuming..

Actually, it works so well that we are thinking about getting another one.

Two of those in each classroom sounds like a no-brainer to me..

Will they do it? I doubt it, because DENIAL is their game.. To buy the

cleaners means admitting there is a probelm.

Most sane people would recognize the insanity of this, but we live in

a dysfunctional country.. I think that most teachers are VERY good

people, but bureaucrats are a different story..The worst kind of

bureaucrats would rather kids and teachers got sick or even died

first.. Then they could sic their high priced lawyers on the survivors

and make THEM wish that THEY were dead too.. Seriously..

Another strong possibility.. some company getting many thousands of

dollars to 'mold-proof' each classroom with something like the

Whispure, that costs ten times as much to the district.. That is

CORRUPTION IN ACTION..

Actually, Bob, Costa Rica is looking better all the time.

Well, at least THEY have a 100% literacy rate!
