Vitamin D dosage

Hey nutrition folks,

I have a patient who was prescribed 50000 IU (not a typo!) of Vitamin D

once per week and 400 IU daily by her MD. Is there any support for

that high of a dose?

It is my understanding that it is possible to overdose on supplemental

Vitamin D and I would imagine at some point there would be negative

consequences. I have read the research on dosages up to 10000 IU, but

I've never seen anything about 50000 and wonder what the rationale

might be for that.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Sincerely,

McCabe, DC
