Hello group,

I am new here and want to spend time reading posts after I say hello.

I have been exposed to aspergillis, penicillium and other molds in my

home. I have an upcoming appt.w/Dr.Shoemaker next week. Have had

many painful tests & procedures in the last 5 years, have an elevated

IGM, and sed rate of 60. Have been so ill since being in Fla. in a

hotel in Sept. and since then have been constantly ill. My vision is

extremely blurry and I lost my vision from the bottom up once for

about 10 secs. Have had many scary visual disturbances and wondered

if any of you on this site have experienced bizarre visual episodes.

Anxious to read posts here, Thank you.

Welcome Jane,

I'm glad you located us, but I'm sorry it is under these conditions.

I'm very pleased that you have an appt with Dr.Shoemaker and I think

you are definately on the right road and most likely one of the best

chances of recovery. After about 8 years dealing with this with my

wife, who was exposed at her place of employment, we also had just

visited Dr.Shoemaker (in October) like many others on this board.

My wife and one other employee had also lost their eyesight for a

short period of time, completely. Thank goodness that didn't last.

Since being out of the contaminated environment she has not had this

problem since, but her eyesight has continuously diminished. But I

have come across some very severe cases.

This is one question you may want to put on your list to present to

Dr.Shoemaker. We wish you all the luck and please let us know how

things go.

Take care,

KC

My eyes were blurry, LOTS of stringy discharge and itchy, red. It has been

traced back to a Yeast infection (fungus)that may have been caused by mold.

Getting better though after being out of the workplace for 3 1/2 months.

Yes, I've gotten visual disturbances. The blurriness is no fun, but the

sensitivity to bright light is far worse. At its worst, a pair of oncoming

headlights or a missing taillight lense would be enough to blind me at 70 MPH,

so I quit driving at night. When I say blurry, I mean this feeling that there's

some kind of muck in your eyes. The other thing is just inability to track or

focus, which left me unable to read at some points (not that I would have

remembered what I read or where it was written down anyway). You probably won't

have to tell Doc Shoemaker about it. He knows about us. He'll probably ask.

Congrats on getting in, btw. Hope you feel better soon!

My vision was one of the first things to be affected besides the terrible

fatigue. At first my eyes would burn and tear when I left the school where I

was exposed and I would have to pull over to the side of the road for several

minutes until they cleared. Then I developed blurred and double vision. This

was just the beginning. Hopefully, you haven't been exposed long enough for it

to continue further and Dr. Shoemaker can help you. My eyes are dong much

better now, so hopefully this is reversible.

just to kick in here, serena, & add to the " list " .....i also have the

blurred vision (NEVER before i got sick, though) & often have a sensation in

my eyes where it feels like pins sticking me in my eyes. somebody else

called it " ice pick syndrome. " my docs here have NO idea about this, of

course. no surprise there. others from my workplace have gone blind.

take care, all.....

Yes, my eye Dr did not get it, but the nuerologist called it " ice

pick eye " , said people with mygrains get it. Don't like to talk

about my vision problems, I depend on excellent vision for my work,

and I would like to have my life back
