Guest guest
Salmonella is not in the inside of the egg. Wash the eggs real well before cracking. Only wash immediately before using otherwise the egg might spoil. There is a thin membrane inside the eggshell that protects the yolk and egg white from contaminants, so don't be afraid to soap the shell. We wash with water and baking soda and a few drops of hydrogen peroxide, then rinse well.
Guest guest
That's what they used to think ... that the salmonella is only on the outside of the egg. But it DOES occur inside the egg too. How much depends on how the egg was handled and the health of the chicken. By far the most salmonella cases come from the shell, and washing the egg (or running it under ultraviolet light, as I think they are doing commercially) works for that. http://www.foodqualitynews.com/Food-Alerts/Salmonella-contamination-found-in-3-o\ f-egg-imports The food regulator tested 1,744 boxes of six eggs or more during March 2005 and July 2006. Salmonellacontamination on the egg shell was found in 157 box samples, with a high proportion originating fromSpain. Out of the total sample, 10 boxes also contained salmonella inside the egg. Salmonella enteritidis was the mostcommon type of salmonella found. For an assessment of salmonella in general: http://www.cdc.gov/enterics/publications/309_Chittick2006.pdf On Mon, Jan 26, 2009 at 9:10 AM, Bag <@...> wrote: > Salmonella is not in the inside of the egg. Guest guest
i agree the fear freaks and their mad frenzy -- they feed off fear. Off with their heads. From: Pamela Valley <2007pams@...>Subject: Re: Fwd: Re: Digest Number 2754iodine Date: Monday, January 26, 2009, 12:25 AM Salmonella is much less common than we think. Japanese eat raw eggs regularly. When I was at my sickest my Japanese chiropractor got me to eat 3 raw eggs in blended drink each morning for several years and it really helped me to heal. Raw eggs are easier to digest when body is totally wiped out. Later found that Mercola research had it as 1 in 30,000 eggs commercially and much less if using organic eggs as they are more cautious with hygiene. Also Europeans commonly keep their eggs on the shelf and not in fridges. We tend to worry about the wrong things anyway. Pam
