Have you ever found yourself at the store, staring at products labeled

" natural " , " eco-friendly " , or " sustainable " , and wondering which, if any, are

really environmentally friendly?

Sustainable consumers spend more than $400 billion each year on products ranging

from organic food to ecotourism. Never before have we had such a selection of

environmentally sound options: from cleaning supplies to car manufacturers, it

seems like almost any product or service is now available with an environmental

hook.

Unfortunately, often it is just a hook. Companies frequently use " greenwash " --

deceptive labeling, false advertising, and slick public relations -- to promote

themselves as far more environmentally responsible than they really are. The

worst part is that they've gotten really, really good at it, to the point that

it's difficult for most people to separate truth from fiction.

Life is an independent, non-profit organization that was originally started by

the PIRGs and others in 1990. The Green Life can be your way to navigate the
