Guest guest
Good one, Dan; thanks for sharing. It's highly informative to see a familiar thing from a different perspective, as Dr. Bolt- describes. Our usual view of the differentiation between right and left hemispheres comes from the study of meditation, where brain theory has it's practical application. It is by willful intent that one sits quietly in upright posture, straight neutral spine , completely at ease, balanced in gravity, attending to the fine details of our proprioceptive feedback, that "yokes" or binds the mind to the right hemisphere, allowing one to enter what Carl Jung called the space of "Universal Self." Of course, the act of choosing to apply the left hemisphere's capacity for detail attentively to the right hemisphere's capacity for the richness of the moment willfully is much different in circumstance from a left sided stroke. But the effects seem to be the same. If we view "wellness" as the capacity of an individual to monitor their own well-being moment-to-moment, then it becomes more apparent that practicing focused inner consciousness, emphasizing the left hemisphere's capacity for detail of the right's richness in the moment, is an important component. The inability of most people to sit upright with a relaxed straight spine is a cardinal reason for the practice of yoga postures, a daily alignment of the relaxed spine around critical angles. As we think, so do we become. As we learn to apply our thinking to the detailed reality of our inner moments, we become more conscious over time of the universality of human experience, the ideation of ourself in the reality of another. It is this inner development that characterizes the wellness revolution, IMO.
