Guest guest
Re: ReA Hi Jeannie, The best way to be pro active is to participate in the group. Posting this email you sent to me would be a great way to start! I'm sure there are many members that can relate to your problem with your relatives. It's a busy time of year but maybe you could encourage members to reply. The more message we have being distributed the less members feel alone. As I'm sure you know that can be a real problem this time of year! I am consumed with my thoughts on its debilitating nature and how it has altered his life so dramatically. First episode was about 9 years ago, last year flared up (about 6 mos) but undiagnosed and this year's flare up was diagnosed (almost 12 mos this year). I am angered by an immediate family member who doesn't share the same opinion of this disease as I do. He also never became involved in any aspect, including caregiving. He does believe there is a disease, there is nothing he can do about it, and strongly feels that it is not a reason to stop working. While trying to educate myself on this disease, I have come across so many other immune disorders, and as I read about them I always seem to come across the words such as, " cause unknown " or " unknown cure " . My questions are these. What am I missing here? How or is the medical community fighting for answers for people with immune disorders? Is there such a thing as an " immunologist " for immune disorders. I certainly know there are allergist/immunology. But what about for your members. How can I help fight this cause? I most certainly realize that you are very active in this fight. I would like to be pro-active too. Thank you for this site. Jeannie
Guest guest
Hi Jeannie, We all have different degrees of diseases. This is not a set fix of symptoms and meds. Like Asthma, some can control it with one med, others need 3 to just live without getting sick. I myself have 3 diseases, they fight each other and sometimes one wins. I worked for quite some time, not knowing what was wrong. Then I colapsed at work and knew I had to find a specialist right away. He diagnosed me the first visit with Reactive Arthritis, then Fibromyalgia on the next visit. Fatigue is one of my biggest issues, making work impossible anymore. I cannot walk more than 20 min in a store and the DR has given me a handicapped parking pass now. The cold in PA is awful on my legs, I hurt so much if I go out. I can usually do one trip to a store, or one chore like 2 loads of wash, or one load of dishes. I no longer can use a vacuum and it has only been 3 years. I never went into remission. Luckily, my hubby has good insurance and a good job so I could quit working. I was approved for SSD, maybe your son could look into that? It sure helps and he could get medical help if he was on disablity. Tell your son to educate himself about his issues, including the mental ones like depression and suggest he come here and read some of the info. He can email me anytime, I will answer within a day usually. As far as my DRs, the Rhuemetologist is the best one for me. However, my eye dr, family dr, and dentist all work together sending reports and I make sure all know what RXs I am taking and what doses. Good luck, your a great encouraging mom.
