The Amazing Oil That Trims Women's Waistlines Four Tablespoons of This " Brain Food " May Prevent Alzheimer's Coconut Oil Helps You Lose Weight Secrets of Virgin Coconut Oil Why should you use coconut oil for cooking? These are from Dr Mercola's newsletters. The coconut oil is solid below 76 degrees. If you get any on your hands, rub it all over your hand and arms. You can use it to eat or on your skin. I usually have two eggs for breakfast and pan fry them in coconut oil. Guest guest
Thanks Lucille. Very interesting articles. However, I was wondering if anyone on this board uses the coconut oil in thier smoothies? I was wondering if you can taste it,does it change the taste of the smoothie and if it is good? Also, in the links they talk about making thier own and I was wondering if when they say oil is that the same as butter? Thanks > > http://articles.mercola.com/sites/articles/archive/2010/10/22/coconut-oil-and-sa\ turated-fats-can-make-you-healthy.aspx > http://articles.mercola.com/sites/articles/archive/2011/06/22/magical-fat-that-i\ ncreases-good-cholesterol-and-lowers-abdominal-obesity-in-women.aspx > http://articles.mercola.com/sites/articles/archive/2010/12/13/can-this-natural-f\ ood-cure-or-prevent-alzheimers.aspx > http://articles.mercola.com/sites/articles/archive/2005/01/26/coconut-oil-part-e\ ight.aspx > http://articles.mercola.com/sites/articles/archive/2004/10/06/virgin-coconut-oil\ ..aspx > http://articles.mercola.com/sites/articles/archive/2003/10/15/cooking-oil.aspx > > These links should work from Dr Mecola's newsletters. > > Lucille >
Guest guest
I don't know if they think of it as butter. I leave a jar on my counter near the stove and in the summer when it's warm, it's in liquid form so I need to be careful not to tip it over. The jar is not leak proof. It solidify at 76 degrees and looks like Crisco. When I put some in my egg fry pan it does smell like coconut. But the smell goes away once I start cooking the eggs. That's about the only pan frying I do now since I got an new Halogen oven. then I can air fry and don't need any kind of oil or fat. Now that you mention it about adding some to a smoothie, I forgot about that. I'll have to try some. Guest guest
I use virgin coconut oil for any fry pan cooking like eggs, sauteeing for curry, etc., smear it on my legs when they are dry, and it absorbs so well and doesn't get tacky, and a mild hint of coconut.I know a lot of people just eat it from a spoon, but I've not gotten there yet, but I might try it in a smoothy. I threw out the rapeseed junk (canola) a long time ago, and wish it weren't out there for consumption at all.Making your own coconut milk is good because it is difficult to find cans that don't have BPA...if you make it the milk really thick, you end up with coconut butter.Ginny From: Lucille <lschacht@...> Sent: Saturday, January 14, 2012 7:31 PM Subject: Re: Re: Organic Virgin Coconut Oil question I don't know if they think of it as butter. Guest guest
Unrefined has more of the coconut flavor for when you want that.Refined has less of a coconut flavor and is better for higher heat cooking.Coconut Butter is the blended paste from dried unsweetened coconut flakes - MUCH, MUCH tastier than consuming coconut oil. I make my coconut butter in the vitamix, and add stevia to to sweeten.Coconut solidifies quickly when cold, so if you add it to a cold smoothie, it is probably best to slow the machine down to a lower variable speed until there is a slight vortex (hole) swirling at the top. Then pour in the coconut oil in the middle so it doesn't solidify on the sides, then, ramp it back up to high to really blend it all up in the smoothie. Guest guest
Hi Lucille, If the smoothie you make is below 76 degrees F, the Vitamix probably would create tiny chunks of coconut oil in the smoothie, but do you think some of these tiny chunks might tend to stick to the side of the container or the blades? I haven't tried this myself in the Vitamix. When I remember to do so, I just dig a teaspoon into my jar of solid extra virgin coconut oil and eat it as is. (A teaspoon daily is enough for most people, unless one is treating a specific condition, then more might be needed.) I like the taste of coconut, so this works for me. Guest guest
I don't know about the smoothie how coconut oil would work in it. Just today on Dr Oz show he said 1 teaspoon of coconut was good. I will be trying out adding some to a VM drink when I get to them. Guest guest
You know what amazes me about Dr Oz? The fact that over time (since he started appearing on tv) things he said are usually disputed by " the authorities " and later confirmed, often reluctantly by those same authorities. Just recently thinking apple juice and coconut oil and others. Velda On 1/19/2012 3:29 PM, Lucille wrote: > I don't know about the smoothie how coconut oil would work in it. Guest guest
This sort of thing has been going on for years with other Drs where they even lost their license. Drug companies can't stand the competition. They want to keep people sick. They can't make money on healthy people who don't buy their drugs.
