Kuby, WOW! I have to say that I don't think that I would ever have tried that combination. It seems like 1/2 sweet and 1/2 savory. Which way did it turn out?Yes you CAN turn a Green Smoothie into a hot soup! (I've done it - I call it a hot pudding :-)Have NO WORRIES about leaving it on high. As long as the mixture isn't thick like hummus or nut butter or ice cream, and the machine is on HIGH (and not any of the variable speeds) you could probably leave it on all day. But up to 10 minutes would be MORE that hot enough for most any need. The machine has a fan that kicks on to cool the motor when it is running on high, but not on the lower variable speeds - this is why you should never use the lower variable speeds for any serious length of time, or for any of the thicker mixtures like hummus, nut butter, and ice cream.

Hi all!

As I'm getting to know my Vitamix again, I decided I might try one of those green smoothies on the chart.

(I had made the broccoli cheese soup last night though and wanted to grate some cheddar cheese for tonight. I cubed a piece of cheddar and threw it in the container on 1 variable and while it cut up lots of it, some I just couldn't get out of the container. I decided to have green soup!)

amount of cheese stuck to bottom of the container

1/2 head romaine (thanks Lea Anne)

1 carrot

1/8 of roma tomato that was in the fridge

1 bosc pear

3/4 cup red seedless grapes

2 TBS of roasted chicken gel stock

3 sprigs of italian parsley (I'm not sure of amounts I can get away with, suggestions welcome)

Turned it on from variable 1 up to 10 and let it go about 5 minutes. It was warm, but would've liked it hotter. (how long can you safely leave this puppy on?)

It came out delicious!!! I'm guessing that a smoothie can become a soup? ::giggle::

I also have the grain container, but i lost the cookbook and docs that came with it, in a move. Is that cookbook available online?

In the demos on QVC, they show making soup and running the VM for 8

minutes. With the new 2 1/4 horsepower they ran it for 4 minutes.

I have seen the grain book at Amazon.

That sounds wonderful,, Kuby! Nice to see you being adventurous and just

throwing what sounds good-that's how some of the best " recipes " come about-my

problem is I can never repeat things as I rarely remember what went in in the

first place, lol. You can leave " that puppy " running for a good long time on

high-I throw in my soup ingredients and go take a shower, come back to piping

hot soup! It is probably not recommended to leave the machine unattended, but I

have been for over 25 years with no problems, lol. Good luck with further

experiments!

Thanks Lea Anne, and Lucille,

Paydirt: in the loose leaf book thingie that I had for the VM, were both the

original docs and the grain cookbook.

, funny thing about these lists... I'm a bit of a kitchen appliance

addict. For years I'd post my favorite recipes on these types of board and it

sure came in handy when I moved and had no cookbooks. I was able to search my

groups and find my recipes. (Of course that was before the iPad.) Another way I

have of remembering my recipes is by blogging. How exciting to be alive at such

a time when technology makes everything more fun.

I just watched the VM vs the Blendtec video's. What a kick!

I love your blog - lots of food recipes + sewing. I love to sew (though I don't get to anymore because of KIDS and Space). I made my wedding dress, and my curtains…
