Hello ,I am not an expert on the color and what it means - but my "gut" says it should be white. As far as whether it is lower in oil - I can tell now just by eating a spoon full of the shredded coconut (or flakes or whatever) if it is higher in oil by the mouth feel. Try it and see if you can too!

Yesterday, I went to a well known Indian produce store here in Texas thinking that I could buy a larger size of shredded or chipped coconut for my butter. Our Whole Foods carry very limited amounts of this and I usually clean them out every time I go. They had shredded and they had chipped. The chipped was snow white. The larger bags (along with all the smaller bags) had a yellow tinge to it. I bought two big bags of this, but when I got home, started wondering if this is a lower quality of coconut..maybe older? I've looked online and they elude that yellow flesh is rancid. Anyone have any ideas whether this is safe to make butter out of? Maybe it's lower in oils? I asked at the store, but they had no idea.

today I went to buy some coconut. we looked in three stores, one trader joe's

didn't have it, the other two only had sweetened. I got it, but wasn't thrilled

by it. Why don't any stores carry unsweetened? we used to buy it just fine.

Best way to get stores to carry items, is to let the manager know that you wish to buy!Ginny From: alia robinson <aliar4@...> Sent: Sunday, January 22, 2012 3:59 PM Subject: Re: Shredded coconut meat question

It took me several years to get the local 's store (only grocery in town) to get some Bragg's raw apple cider vinegar - and then they only got the gallon size.

Bummer, but at least they did get it in...but only in a gallon size!! Wow! Alia wanted to know why her store doesn't carry unsweetened coconut, and I suggested she ask them, or suggest that they carry it. Otherwise, the store figures everyone is happy with the sweetened. The store may decide there aren't enough people that will want it, so they stilll might not carry it...but at least she's tried.Ginny From: Ann Brandenberger <mrsbberger@...> Sent: Sunday, January 22, 2012 4:38 PM Subject: Re: Shredded coconut meat question

Thanks Lea Ann for your input. I haven't opened it yet but will and take a taste. The reason I went ahead and bought it was the smell was right..no off odor to it. I may just have to add a little oil to it. I'm actually anxious to see what kind of product I get from it when I try to make my butter from it. I love this stuff...but not sure my waistline does.

Question for those of you using Black Cherry Extract for arthritis issues - I know you say you are getting it from GNC but is it a GNC brand or can you list the brand you are getting great results from? Also, I'm assuming it's unsweetened as I noticed there is both sweetened and unsweetened offered. Is there anything you need to look for in order to insure that you are getting the right potency?

Again, thank you for everyone's input on the coconut issue. I do love shopping periodically at the different ethnic stores as you can find so many variables in produce there at such great prices. But the more I thought about the coconut, the more I pondered whether it was such a good deal after all..;)

Lea Ann,I am wondering..is there a lowfat variety of tropical traditions coconut? I just saw the gallon shredded and flaked but didn’t see if there was one that was organic and unsweetened and lowfat? I have been using the lets do organics for years but have wanted to try the Tropical Traditions. I just cannot take all the fat and still eat my nut butters too! ;) In His Grace….Robbie From: [mailto: ] On Behalf Of alia robinsonSent: Sunday, January 22, 2012 6:00 PM Subject: Re: Shredded coconut meat question today I went to buy some coconut. we looked in three stores, one trader joe's didn't have it, the other two only had sweetened.
