Well I may have killed my Vitamix. Under warranty so not worried just

will be bumed if I don't have it for 2 weeks.

Making tortilla soup. Was writing an email when I heard a boom.

Oh great the container came apart and there is soup everywhere EXCEPT in

the container.

Cleaned up, put it back together. Made another batch.

Now I don't have variable speed. Will wait til it dries out and try

again in the am.

Customer service is closed so will have to wait til tomorrow anyway.

Oh no... Good luck in the morning. I hope it dries out and you won't need to call. Perhaps a hair dryer on a low setting may work?•Robbin On Jan 25, 2012, at 9:27 PM, Tony Szpara <tszpara@...> wrote:

Hi Tony,Well, I can certainly relate to this fiasco having had a similar disaster a couple of weeks ago. I am no Vitamix expert, but here are my comments for what they may be worth. You state that the container came apart, that you put it back together, and that you no longer have a working variable speed control. This is exactly what happened in my case, although I do not know whether the variable speed was working or not, as, unlike you, I didn't have the courage to re-try the machine before speaking with Customer Service! When I did speak with them, the Rep stated that I would need a tool to put the container together again, as I would be unable to tighten it enough by hand. Perhaps this is what is wrong in your case. You are unable to tighten the blades to the container tight enough for the "threads" to properly grab into the machine, maybe?? And that might be what is causing you to be unable to use the variable speed?Whether that is what ails your machine or not, the tightening tool Vitamix sent out to me has been a blessing. ALL of the blades of my containers needed tightening--some more than others. I do not ever want to have a tomato sauce decorated kitchen again. The best news is that your machine is still under warranty. The max you could lose is the time it took to clean up the kitchen, which, granted, might have been considerable.I hope that Vitamix will conclude this episode for you as painlessly and expeditiously as they did for me. The best to you.Blessings,On Jan 25, 2012, at 6:27 PM, Tony Szpara wrote:

Thanks.

Already had the tool.  Last time it came apart I was making a

protein bar.  (Similar consistency of almond butter so no big mess)

So it's tightened now.

I do have low and high now.  (Didn't an hour ago so maybe once it

dries out it'll be ok)

If not I may end up getting a 2nd machine before I send this back so

I don't go through withdrawals.

Then I'll keep the 2nd one at work once I get both working.

I still made another batch of soup afterwards.

2 batches of protein bars

1 batch of honey mustard dressing.

Plus soup and a smoothie for breakfast. (before the disaster)

6 times in one day is a record for me.

You will be the hero at the office (if you share :-) How many people from work have you convinced to buy a Vitamix machine? (You sure are one of my "frequent sales referral" friends!)I don't know what I'd do without a back up machine. My first machine (a 5000) had "issues" with the variable speed control (it was getting "jumpy") but I kept putting off sending it in for repairs because I couldn't imagine even one day without it. I won a 5200 at a sales meeting so I sent my 5000 in right away. Now my 5200 has "issues" with the variable speed control (I'm sure it is just a screw that needs tightening) it is also a "little bit" jumpy between variable speeds 1 and 4, but I've lent out my 5000, so I haven't sent in my 5200 for repairs.NOW, the company has asked us to take a demo machine from show to show to show (instead of demonstrating a new machine every show) so I'll have that machine as a back up, and I"m sending in my stainless 5200 for repairs to the variable speed control. So sorry this happened Tony - I look forward to hearing that as it dries, all of its features are working again (fingers crossed), but even if that happens, I'd still send it in for a good check up / clean out.

Two people at work. One has his wife using it a lot for smoothies.

Another has her husband use it just for protein shakes as a "blender"

We had an old 1960's 2000 machine for a week or so but no one really used it.

I asked her if I bought one for work if she's make soup. (Too much prep work for her...)

I was soo excited last night as the woman at the checkout at Trader Joe's wants one.

I told her I bought sweet potatoes for a smoothie.....

I tried it this am and it is getting better. A little jumpy as you say from speeds 1-4 so I'll let it dry out a few more days and see.

Too bad Vitamix didn't have a swap (cross ship) program

1. I call cust service to get machine repaired.

2. They send tag for me to ship it.

3. They bill my credit card for $450 (or whatever) for a demo machine.

4. When I receive demo machine I ship broken one back

5. Whe broken one is repaired and received

6. Ship demo machine back

7. Company receves demo back and refunds the $450 demo loaner fee

I think you should suggest this to them.

Can't live a day without your VM? Here's a way to get a " loaner " for less than

the $450 VM wants to charge. I often see the VM offered on QVC and usually for

5 payments with free shipping and handling. (Watch for it on air, it is usually

offered a couple times a month. You could also call and if you have a QVC

account they may be able to help you.) You also have a 30 day money back

guarantee. So order it. Once you receive it, send yours in for repair. Get

yours back and return the one you got from QVC and your first payment is

refunded. On most items the return shipping is about $7. So that would be all

you would be out.

Sorry, but personally I find that dishonest, and it's a good way to get places

like QVC to quit carrying them.

Oh MARY!! Are you serious? That is cheating the company and taking so many of their new products and making them used. I think that is terribly dishonest. That is equivalent to wearing a fancy dress to an occasion, leaving on the tags and then returning it. Never would I do either. •Robbin On Jan 26, 2012, at 3:22 PM, "malehto" <maalleh@...> wrote:

This is exactly what happened in my case, although I do not know whether the variable speed was working or not, as, unlike you, I didn't have the courage to re-try the machine before speaking with Customer Service! When I did speak with them, the Rep stated that I would need a tool to put the container together again, as I would be unable to tighten it enough by hand. Perhaps this is what is wrong in your case. You are unable to tighten the blades to the container tight enough for the "threads" to properly grab into the machine, maybe?? And that might be what is causing you to be unable to use the variable speed?

Whether that is what ails your machine or not, the tightening tool Vitamix sent out to me has been a blessing. ALL of the blades of my containers needed tightening--some more than others. I do not ever want to have a tomato sauce decorated kitchen again.

The best news is that your machine is still under warranty. The max you could lose is the time it took to clean up the kitchen, which, granted, might have been considerable.

I hope that Vitamix will conclude this episode for you as painlessly and expeditiously as they did for me. The best to you.

Blessings,

I completely agree with what others have said, this would be dishonest

to my thinking and I would NEVER even consider it.

offered a couple times a month.

Hi there,

I am new to the group -- have had my Vitamix (5200) for about a month -- and I

LOVE it. I had to send it in for repairs last week -- shipped it late on Friday

via Fedex, they got it Monday and I had it back, like new, on Wednesday. So if

you do have to send it back it may not be gone more than a few days. I was

extremely lucky that my mom loaned me her new Creations GC that she got off of

the QVC special a week or so ago. If you are considering getting another

machine, the QVC model is nice. I did notice that it 'gets the job done' a bit

faster than my 5200.

Good luck -- hope yours is working like new again soon.

It seems fine now and I hung up on customer service after waiting on hold for almost 10 minutes.
