No kale for four hours after taking synthroid. Just as you can not take calcium or iron supplements. You need to increase your water intake to a minimum of six 8 oz glasses. You also NEED FATS. it helps in lubrication and many sorts of things. You must have olive oil or avacado .. Healthy fats. •Robbin On Jan 28, 2012, at 10:35 AM, "apricot855" <apricot043@...> wrote:

In the 3 days I've been having green smoothies, I have blown up. I mean that my pants became substantially tighter. I thought it was being caused by the fruits, but in reviewing that each big glass was less than 10 g sugar. If anything my carb intake is very reduced.

One would think that lots of spinach, celery and cucumber would support bathroom visits, but I am having the opposite experience. My plumbing is clogged up. I am colder, but I thought it because my caloric intake is down. My fatigue increased, and I speculated that the fiber was binding the thyroid medication. I increased my thyroid meds and that helped a little.

My smoothie batches consisted of the following:

- spinach - 1/3 of the 64 oz container

- half cucumber

- 1 celery stalk

- 1 carrot with green top

- piece of ginger

- 1/4 cup blueberries

- half apple

- 1/8 small papaya

- 1/2 cup almond milk

- water & ice to the top

I drank this batch over 1.5 days. Maybe I should try heating my veggies before I put in the VM.

Thank you Robbin. It's a disappointment to read that because I want my smoothie

in the morning, afternoon and evening. :-)

I am reading now that spinach is a goitergenic and I might need to heat. I am

wondering how much heating is enough. Now that I am afraid I will probably

steam it to oblivion. A list of goitergenic foods here:

Hi Robbin. I agree with you. I have my thyroid, and I take kelp with iodine in

it. I think iodine helps with many things. I do not tolerate the high dose that

some advocate, but I do take more than RDA.

Thanks, Amy

Thyroid medication must be taken on an empty stomach. With nothing following for 45 min. Some believers feel no coffee either following synthroid •Robbin On Jan 29, 2012, at 1:55 AM, "stacy_goes_raw" <stacy_goes_raw@...> wrote:

Hi . Since reading up on the problem and taking recommended

actions, I'm doing much better! Huge difference. My skin warmed up and

I constant fatigue is gone. My stomach is no longer distended and

bowels are moving on their own.

Not everyone is sensitive to goitergenic foods. For those sensitive,

goitergens deactivate the active thyroid hormone. Renders the hormone

useless. Every cell uses active thyroid hormone, and without it the

cells stop their normal activity.

I backed off a day, and then tried heating the spinach as recommended.

Goitergens can be deactivated by heat. It worked! I did not find

information that said not to take near meds. Just which foods have

goitergens and when heating will work to deactivate them. Goitergens

are found in soy, some seeds, and fruits. It isn't just greens.

Most likely, the reason I had such a big reaction is that I took in a

LOT of spinach over a 3 day period. There are plenty of non-goitergenic

greens, and I feel I have lots of options now that I know what to do.

I've got my green smoothie ready for tomorrow and I'm getting better at

making them.
