Guest guest
Kat, I've been there and one things that helped was diluting the nasal spray with distilled water and doing a little yoga breathing. A particularly good one is to lie on your bed with only your head hanging over the edge (you are on your back). Breathe deep (with diaphram) and through your nose, filling the sinus cavity and deep into your gut. Take fives breathes to the count of 8 in, 6 hold and 8 out. You'll be amazed. I do understand that first you may need a little diluted nasal spray to start the process but I found as I diluted it, I also use it less. Let me know how you do. I competely understand that cold turkey doesn't work! However, don't give up as I have addicted myself a few times following a cold. Also you might try a very dilute solution of H202 in a nasal spray bottle. Say one drop of 3 % in one ounce of water. It will hydrate your membranes and add oxygen. I have put this solution and sprayed it in the air while in the tub and did deep breathing exercises. I still have moments when it's the only thing that gives me relief but it is infrequent. Guest guest
Kat, I went 11 years without breathing through my nose, so I know what you're going through better than you do if you haven't got there yet. But, you can overcome it if you have to. And, it sounds like you have to. If you don't stop, then you will only get worse, to a place where nothing short of cocaine will work. Then where are you? If you have to go through a transitional period without breathing through your nose, so be it! If you want to get healthy, you have to start somewhere! You can't BS forever. And, since you are at the crossroads, why not now. Lots of FIR (far infra-red) from the Sun or a lamp. Sweats. Steam baths. Fresh squeezed vegetable & fruit juices, lots of water, fresh air & exercise. Don't forget the green leafy vegetables, etc. Sound familiar? If so, it's because we've heard how to be healthy all of our lives, but never paid attention. Sad, but true. We have to get real to get better. jim Angelkat wrote: > > I asked this earlier and can't find the reply... does anyone know what to do > when one becomes addicted to nasal spray? Guest guest
When I was very young I became addicted to Afrin nasal spray. The solution was to go to a doctor who wrote a prescription for some pills (steroids?) that I took for a week or so and that was it, addiction ended. Many times traditional allopathic medicine works well in acute care cases. Guest guest
I wonder if it would help to dissolve some MSM crystals and use that in a sprayer for your sinuses. I've seen it recommended. Guest guest
P.M. and List- You said something that intrigued me. You said that most sinus infections are fungal (?) not bacterial, correct? On this list, we have discussed that cancer lives on fermentation of sugar (?) and acidic conditions at the cellular level. We've talked about parasites, and Hulda , and the idea that they too like acidic (and sugary, and sometimes heavy metal) conditions. We've talked about alkaline and acid PH in the blood. My question is this: Do fungi, parasites (cryptosporidum included) and cancer like alkaline conditions? Remember the post on HCL? I can't seem to get away from it. Remember, the author (?) said the HCL will correct blood PH. and break the white cells out of their slowly induced stupor? (Frog in the pot syndrome? Put frog in the pot, warm the water gradually. Frog won't fight to get out of the pot, and will eventually cook to death). How many of us are slowly cooking in our bacteria, fungal, hypoxia and food induced pots, so gradually we don't even notice? Is there more than meets the eye to correcting the blood and cellular PH? Could it tie in together with, or maybe underlie all of the above? Blessings, Zell
Guest guest
Hyperbaric oxygen therapy for rhinocerebral fungal infection. Kajs Wyllie M St. 's Hospital, Austin, Texas 78765-4039, USA. J Neurosci Nurs, 1995 Jun, 27:3, 174-81 Rhinocerebral mucormycosis is an acutely fatal fungal infection that usually arises in the ethmoid sinuses, spreads into the orbits and then into the cranial cavity. It is typically seen in diabetic or immunocompromised patients. Therapy includes aggressive surgical debridement, administration of high-dose amphotericin-B and control of underlying predisposing conditions. Adjunctive hyperbaric oxygen (HBO) is another treatment modality that appears to be promising; oxygen in sufficient concentrations is fungicidal and decreases acidosis thereby increasing tissue survival. It is important for the neuroscience nurse to have an understanding of this deadly infection and the role in preparing the patient for HBO therapy to better plan care. > [Original Message] > From: <c_zell@...> > <oxyplusegroups> > Date: 06/20/2000 9:42:24 AM > Subject: Re: RE: nasal spray addicition > > P.M. and List- > > You said something that intrigued me. Guest guest
You are having (what is called) " rebound effect " . Depending on how long and which brand you've been on , will dictate how long for the membranes to shrink back to normal. The device below can expedite the recovery time. I highly suggest you check out the book Sinus Survival, by Dr. Ivker. For immediate gratification check out http://www.ent-consult.com/ and http://www.ent-consult.com/nasal_irr.html This device saved my quality of life in 1992. I had several polyps in a couple sinus cavities. I had sinus head aches that made migraines look tame. I mean, lay down, don't move, and turn off the lights. A highly respected ENT in my area told me I would have to live with it after treating me for 8 months, with no (very little) success. In 30 day's I would prove him wrong. If you own a *water pik* you only need to make a 20.00$US investment to correct your sinus problems. If you suffer sinus problems (and don't want to?). You can't afford NOT to make the twenty dollar investment! You can switch to nasal saline when you can't be near the irrigator. Just be careful of the brand you choose http://www.ent-consult.com/salineadditives.html New Items I haven't tried yet, ( haven't had too).... http://www.ent-consult.com/enzymes.html http://www.sinus-relief.com/breatheease.html Question's...... What nasal spray are you using? Why did you start using it? P.M. Guest guest
Nystantin in hot water in a neti has been a great help to me. If someone has access to nystantin powder, a prescription product, and has chronic sinusitis, they really should try a pinch in hot water delivered through a neti pot twice a day. > What is the importance of a fungus in sinusitis? > http://www.sinuses.com/faq.htm#410 > > An article published in the Mayo Clinic Proceedings in September, 1999 by > Gene Kern's group at the Mayo Clinic suggests that fungal sinusitis may be > much more common than previously thought. Guest guest
Beconase is a glucocorticoid, a steroid. (I did my share of Vancenase in my troubled time, moderate short term help) Granted there is less rebound effect, but how do you like what else your putting in your sinuses..... some products contain; flurocarbon propellant, alcohol, propylene or polyethylene. Ummmmm, and taste and smell of these nasal steroids are...... uhhhh......Delicious! Yeah that's it delicious! (NOT) Shall I contniue about steroid use? Naaaah! One of the great things about pulsitile nasal irrigation is your can put all kinds of solutions up your nose! Since this is an oxy list, I'm referring to 35% food grade H2O2 extremely diluted! (i've done this, and over done it also!!) Latest research points to chronic sinusitis being caused from a fungal agent, Not bacterial. So the whole time your on antibiotics for chronic sinusitis the fungal infection is getting worse. This is no joke, because your brain, eyes and ears are only a hop skip and a jump from your sinuses! Guest guest
Let me just clarify a little Chris. The key word is " chronic " . Most sinus suffers wax and wain with problems. Then there are those who continually have trouble....that's the chronic bunch. What is the importance of a fungus in sinusitis? http://www.sinuses.com/faq.htm#410 An article published in the Mayo Clinic Proceedings in September, 1999 by Gene Kern's group at the Mayo Clinic suggests that fungal sinusitis may be much more common than previously thought. Fungal growth was found in 96% of patients with chronic sinusitis. The difference between those with chronic sinusitis and the normal population was that their eosinophiles ( a type of white blood cell involved in allergic and other reactions) had become activated. They had released a product called Major Basic Protein which attacks the fungus but is very irritating to the lining of the sinuses. It is then speculated that this injury allows the bacteria to proliferate. The concern is whether our treatment of sinusitis should be directed at treatment of the fungus rather than the bacteria. This topic is extremely controversial and will be investigated more in the near future. There was not discussion about treatment in the article, but it was suggested that there may be treatment developed in the near future.
