Guest guest
Debbie, I just received a shipment of virgin coconut oil from Tropical Traditions, a U.S.-based company. I also received a book, " Virgin Coconut Oil, " by and nita Shilhavy, who founded and own the Tropical Traditions company. In the book, virgin coconut oil (VCO) is discussed as a treatment for many health problems, including skin problems. There a number of testimonials from people who have used VCO as the only treatment that cleared up their skins problems, including eczema. I don't know whether Tropical Traditions ships to the UK, but you should go to the website and read about this wonderful company and their products (all coconut raw material is sourced from small farmers in the Philippines). There should be a contact e-mail address on the website: http://www.tropicaltraditions.com. If Tropical Traditions doesn't ship to the UK, try to find coconut oil that is not heat or solvent processed from a natural foods store in the UK. HTH, Lynn G > > This may possibly be off topic do I do apologise if it's in the wrong place. My partner has terrible eczema in his hands and especially when it is cold, they crack and bleed. Does anyone have any homemade lotion suggestions I could mix up in the vitamix? His hands are so dry and he has tried prescription and pretty much every commercial moisturiser/lotion. > > Any help appreciated. > > Debbie. >
Guest guest
Thanks. I'm not sure if they do send to the uk but I'll check. I do have some some extra virgin cold pressed coconut oil at home. He's tried it a couple of times and says it makes no difference (works fine for me). I think he just can't be bothered because it's solid most of the time! Debbie > > Debbie, > I just received a shipment of virgin coconut oil from Tropical Traditions, a U.S.-based company. Guest guest
Debbie, I forgot to mention that VCO can be taken internally by the spoonful, and it can also be used topically on the skin. As the Tropical Traditions website (as well as other sources) indicates, VCO has wonderful anti-viral, anti-bacterial, and anti-fungal properties. VCO is a solid substance at temperatures below 76 degrees F (24.4 degrees C). It is a simple task to apply a small amount on the problem skin areas, but this needs to be done several times a day (especially after washing the problem areas). At night, a generous amount of VCO should be applied, and a piece of cotton cloth could be placed or secured over the treated area(s) so that the VCO stays where it is needed and doesn't rub off while sleeping. Guest guest
Debbie, I think that the only way that VCO would be effective for your partner is that it needs to be used frequently and consistently for a fairly long period of time (a few weeks?) If you can persuade him that it is worth the effort to use the VCO method for a long enough time, he would be very happy at the end result, that is, healed skin, or at least a major improvement in his eczema condition. Also, regarding his objection to the VCO being solid, it could be warmed up very easily to a liquid state first before applying, but, what the heck, as soon as you apply a little in the solid state, it immediately melts as soon as it hits the skin.
