Hi Lea Ann,Sorry. Typo. It should read "1 cup" purple cabbage. Best, Liane BarrSent from my iPhoneOn Jan 23, 2012, at 3:37 AM, Lea Ann Savage <lsavage@...> wrote:

What does "one cut purple cabbage" mean? One wedge cut from the head, or one head cut up? Which did you use? If you used a whole head of purple cabbage raw, that would be what made it taste "off" (IMO).

Liane- I had a similar result with an early tomato soup attempt back when I

first bought my Vitamix. Can I ask, are you used to raw foods? We found in our

case since we were not used to a raw food diet, we did eat raw veggies but

carrots, celery, tomatoes and such not all our food raw.

My husband loves tomato soup but had always had the normal canned variety. We

found for us the problem was having the raw soup. I had to put the Vitamix soup

in a pan and cook it. Then it tasted pretty good.

We still can not eat it raw. Guess too much of a creature of habit.

But this could be part of the issue if you are not used to raw. This soup tastes

nothing like the store bought cooked soups we are used to.

Thanks for your comments Vickey. I do eat a lot of raw foods but more so in salads and smoothies. I agree with your suggestion. I will have to cook the tomatoes first for soup. It's more work, but seems its worth it. Best, Liane BarrSent from my iPhoneOn Jan 24, 2012, at 12:46 AM, "kjtbeskimo" <vickeym@...> wrote:

I would suggest cooking the onion and the garlic before adding to the mix. Sauteeing or roasting like Lee Ann suggested should take out the bitter. Not sure I'd pre-cook the tomatoes, but once everything was all mixed up, then I'd heat it up like a soup. The ingredients sound great, I think it's just in the preparation.  And for the cabbage, I'd use some, not a whole head. I'd even consider not adding it to the mix, but adding some cut up to the pot.

Hi there,I'm somewhat new to Vitamix and made a homemade tomato soup tonight using a Blendtex recipe (i found it in their recipe book when the demo gal was at Costco last week). Anyhow, it was so awful tasting I threw the entire batch out.

Anyone out there have a great tomato soup recipe that is somewhat healthy??Thank you in advance.Liane :)

Hello all,

I recieved my vita-mix for Christmas and have enjoyed using it mulitple times a

day every since! I joined this group shortly after the holiday and have learned

so much from all of you. Thank you!

I am searching for a good Tomato Soup Recipe. I tried making the tomato bisque

recipe from the Vita-Mix website and I wasn't thrilled!

I have some campari tomatoes to use up and thought a yummy hot soup would be

perfect for my family this afternoon!

Thanks,

Monet

Tomato soup is one of my daughter's favorites made in the Vitamix. I use campai

tomatoes as well. I cut the tomatoes in half, lay them on a double fold of tin

foil (or you can use a glass baking dish, but the foil makes for super easy

clean up-once your veggies are all in, just fold it up and seal it into a packet

before baking) add a small wedge of red onion, clove of garlic cut in half,

couple of leaves of basil, tarragon and/or thyme, drizzle with a tiny bit of

olive oil and a squeeze of lime, then roast them for about 1/2 hour in a 375

oven to develop the sugars in the tomato. When roasted, I just open the

package right in to the Vitamix container and buzz it up, pour into a bowl and

sprinkle thinly sliced scallions on top. Nice and easy, hearty, and delish!

Isn't foil made with aluminum ? I've read many times that it damages the

brain and leads to Alzheimer. That soup does sound good.

Yes, foil is made with aluminum, and I usually avoid it, and often use parchment instead of foil, but I do use foil now and then since it isn't cooking for too long. Glass is better, of course!Sent from my iPadOn Jan 28, 2012, at 1:28 PM, "Lucille" <lschacht@...> wrote:

I tried this recipe and it turned out great! Thanks. I had to use Roma tomatoes

because they were the only ones grown in the USA at my grocery store and I

refuse to buy from Mexico. Not the best tomato to use, but the recipe was still

delicious. Thanks.
