Guest guest
Marnie, My guess would be a date seed. I did that once when I thought I had checked thoroughly and the VM didn't like it at all. Definitely a seed that will not pulverize. When I was drinkig the smoothie there were a few very small pieces, looked like almonds with the pale color and spot of brown on the side, but hard as a rock! I'm thinking possibly an orange seed or two, or a date pit got in there, but I really thought they were all out. Any idea if the orange seed or date pit would be that hard as a rock? Any danger to possibly having consumed any of them? Guest guest
My guess is date pit - that is what they sound like and they are VERY hard. It isn't uncommon for pitted dates to have pits (sometimes) they must miss the "pitting" machine :-) Blessings,Lea Ann SavageSatellite Beach, FL(321) 773-7088 (home)(321-961-9219 (cell)))><'>www.VitamixLady.comwww..com<))>< On Feb 24, 2012, at 1:30 PM, Marnie wrote: I thought the experienced folks on this board might be able to help me here - this morning when blending up my smoothie I noticed the Vitamix making the "crunchy up" noise (like the sound of it blending up something hard like the almonds or ice I had in there) but it seemed to go on much longer than usual. Guest guest
Thanks for the replies - good to know and I'll check the dates more carefully next time. Hope I didn't mess up the Vitamix (made smoothie and took to work so not home to check). > > I thought the experienced folks on this board might be able to help me here - this morning when blending up my smoothie I noticed the Vitamix making the " crunchy up " noise (like the sound of it blending up something hard like the almonds or ice I had in there) but it seemed to go on much longer than usual. Guest guest
It won't mess up the Vitamix - perhaps a few extra scratches in the plastic, but nothing to worry about. Happens to me all of the time at shows. Usually the date pit is the size of coffee grounds by the time I pour the samples, and when I know there was a date pit in there (you can HEAR them :-) I warn the audience… The date pit "grounds" sink. Guest guest
When I use the frozen mixed berries, sometimes those seeds don't get totally disolved. > > > > I thought the experienced folks on this board might be able to help me here - this morning when blending up my smoothie I noticed the Vitamix making the " crunchy up " noise (like the sound of it blending up something hard like the almonds or ice I had in there) but it seemed to go on much longer than usual. Guest guest
Hi ,Did you see this post? /message/13927Berry seeds are quite a challenge (especially blackberry) and require a special technique to really work them over :-) Even using this method, I can detect a very fine gritty texture - but MUCH finer than when I blend mixed berries in a whole smoothie without using this "technique".
