That ice cream sounds delicious! Don't suppose you have a quantity/ratio

breakdown do you?

Thanks

You can rest easy about buying a refurb! First, not all refurbs are demo

units-might have just been returned for buyer's remorse, open box, or some other

reason. Second, the machines are re run down the assembly line TWICE with a

refurb, to be sure there are no problems. I actually think refurbs get a better

going over than regular ones. I buy refub EVERYTHING-my Kitchenaid, Vitamix,

Blendtec, and other high end gadgets-never had a problem with any of them. I

also buy most of my electronics as refurbs. Since they have the same warranty,

no need to worry. RELAX, and enjoy your new toy! Welcome to the group.

Hello,My first machine was the machine I trained with, and it was used every day at a 10-day demonstration. That was 4 years and 5 months ago, and the machine is still going strong. I sell, on average, a reconditioned machine every other day. Mechanical things break and I often hear back from my customers if it happens (which is rarely) but I have seen no difference between whether the machine was originally sold "new" or "reconditioned".I'm not saying that he was trying to do this, but it might be "possible" that he was trying to get you to cancel the order and/or return the machine in order to buy from him. I've never heard anything like that comment, and regardless MANY of the machines that are sold as reconditioned have never been use or were only used a few times before buyer's remorse kicked in. I'd guess that only 10-20% of the reconditioned machines were used as demonstration machines.IMO it is the warranty that matters - whether the machine is new or reconditioned, for 7-years you have a machine that Vitamix promises to keep it working (should something happen that was not due to user error).Did you know that you can add an additional 3-year warranty (for a total of 10 years)https://secure.vitamix.com/3-Year-Extended-Warranty.aspxThe cost of the 3-year extension is $120 (according to that link) but I'm 99% sure (I'd have to verify this Monday morning with Customer Service) that you can buy the 3-year extension for $75 if you buy it with your machine. Even though you've already made the purchase, Vitamix would allow you to add the extension (should you want to do so) at this lower price if you did it within a reasonably soon time frame.

He didn't measure anything out but I'd say it was probably 1/2 cup each of the

nuts, maybe a little less, a whole banana, and 1-2 tbsp of agave. About 2-3 cups

of ice. It was awesome! I'm thinking it would also be great with maple syrup as

the sweetener and walnuts to make maple walnut ice cream. I'm going to buy

popsicle molds at Amazon so I can make my own fruit/yogurt bars for the summer.

Thanks . It was because it had the same warranty that I went with the

refurb. I was glad to read your post about using unbleached muslin for nut bags.

I made one out of muslin and also made a larger one to strain my yogurt to make

it thicker. I wasn't sure if it was safe to use it or not so I'm glad to see

someone else did the same thing.

Thanks Lea Ann, that's good to hear. It did occur to me that he might be trying

that but the reason I didn't want to buy at the demo to begin with is because it

was in another state with sales tax, my state doesn't have sales tax so it would

have bumped up the price. I'm glad I had already ordered it though. I thought

the woman at customer service said the demos had special pricing but they were

selling for the same price as online, so I got a really good deal. Plus she

matched the QVC price of $99 on the dry grains container and threw in a set of

the spatulas.

I do know there is an extended warranty but to be honest, whenever I have

purchased one of those, I have regretted it because nothing ever happened. I

know that these are well made so most likely it will be fine. I also read

somewhere that even if the unit is out of warranty, you can send it in for

repair.

I guess I just assumed most of the refurbs are demos as opposed to returns.

After seeing it in person, I can't imagine someone would have buyer's remorse

after actually trying it. I was so impressed, I'm in love with it already and

it's not even here yet.

I recommend a Zoku pop maker, rather than plastic molds, but that is just because I try to avoid plastics. The Zoku is pretty cool anyway!Sent from my iPadOn Mar 10, 2012, at 10:48 PM, "chele519" <chele519@...> wrote:

I just caught something in the first message in this string. " chele519 "

wrote about the VM demo and said: " He also made peanut butter but the

machine was really a pain to clean up. " ,

NO one has mentioned it, so I thought I would bring it up, as we have

talked about it before. Make the nut butter first in the VM, using the

nuts you want to use in your " ice cream " then take out most of the nut

butter, but not worrying about the corners and crevices, and put the

rest of the ingredients for the Ice Cream in the container in and VM

until it is done, Eat the ice cream and the sticky nut butter is mixed

with the ice cream, instead of stuck in the corners. The ice cream

" cleans " the container so it can be cleaned much easier with soap and

water after done with dessert.

He took the majority of it out and then made a smoothie with just a banana and

the peanut butter left in it. Maybe your solution would work better, I'll have

to try it, thanks for posting it. Even with the smoothie, there was peanut

butter left on the sides and he washed it out and then had to wash it a 2nd

time. He said that's the reason he only makes peanut butter one time per demo

day. I wasn't that concerned, I have a good food processor so if I still need to

do a couple things in that, it's not an issue.

You are welcome Michele!I was exactly like you - I did Green Smoothies in a regular blender for 3 months before the Vitamix Road show came into my town (I am the Queen of UNUSED Kitchen Gadgets) and I could not afford an unused $400 blender! There is no way to describe the difference between the Green Smoothie from a blender and the Green Smoothie from the Vitamix - not only in taste (more flavor released) and texture, but also in the ease of making…We always sell the extra containers at the package price of $99 if you buy the extra container with the machine, or within 3 months of buying the machine.Have you seen this page yet?/message/19698(It is saved on the Links page of our Group)I can tell that you are excited now. I think the "buyers remorse" is often just the wife getting home and telling hubby she just bought a 400 dollar blender and he pitches a fit! Like you said, no one who has tried it as it is intended is likely to be remorseful in any way! I always tell people if they split the cost over the 7 years of warranty, it only costs them .17 cents a day to own such a wonderful gadget!Sent from my iPadOn Mar 11, 2012, at 8:45 AM, Lea Ann Savage <lsavage@...> wrote:

I know. I made my regular smoothie this morning and it tastes horrible now

compared to what I had yesterday. I checked out that page. I did watch a ton of

you tube videos and have added more to my playlist.

I didn't know that about the extra containers. I'm thinking of getting a 32 oz

in a while for the compost but can't afford it right now with this order.

Definitely within 3 months though.

I compare it to the Berkey water filter. Most people say, Oh, I

could never afford that (hating to part with upwards of $300 and

more for a water filter). When you do the math for a Berkey, it is

around 2 cents a gallon to both filter and purify water, where other

less expensive systems can be 25 cents and more just to filter, then

you still have to purify.

The VM is a good investment, as long as you use it, for many years

to come.

tell people if they split the cost over the 7 years of warranty,

it only costs them .17 cents a day to own such a wonderful

You are welcome Michele!

I was exactly like you - I did Green Smoothies in a

regular blender for 3 months before the Vitamix Road show

came into my town (I am the Queen of UNUSED Kitchen

There is no way to describe the difference between the

Green Smoothie from a blender and the Green Smoothie from

the Vitamix - not only in taste (more flavor released) and

texture, but also in the ease of making…

We always sell the extra containers at the package

price of $99 if you buy the extra container with the

machine, or within 3 months of buying the machine.

Thanks Lea Ann, that's good to hear. It did occur

to me that he might be trying that but the reason

I didn't want to buy at the demo to begin with is

because it was in another state with sales tax, my

state doesn't have sales tax so it would have

bumped up the price. I'm glad I had already

ordered it though. I thought the woman at customer

service said the demos had special pricing but

they were selling for the same price as online, so

I got a really good deal. Plus she matched the QVC

price of $99 on the dry grains container and threw

in a set of the spatulas.

I do know there is an extended warranty but to be

honest, whenever I have purchased one of those, I

have regretted it because nothing ever happened. I

know that these are well made so most likely it

will be fine. I also read somewhere that even if

the unit is out of warranty, you can send it in

for repair.

I guess I just assumed most of the refurbs are

demos as opposed to returns. After seeing it in

person, I can't imagine someone would have buyer's

remorse after actually trying it. I was so

impressed, I'm in love with it already and it's

not even here yet.

Lea Ann, does it matter if the machine was a refurbished unit? I had read online

that with the registration card was a coupon for $50 towards an extra container

but I didn't get the registration card or anything. I'm seriously considering an

extra for composting but the regular prices are pretty high. I'd like to get a

48oz or another 64oz if either one would be $99. What size would you recommend

for composting? I'd probably only want to do it once or twice a week.

Hello Michele,That information about a $50 off coupon only applies to the 5200C (which is the Costco on-the-shelf sales program) There is no cookbook in the box for a 5200C and you can use that coupon for a cookbook, or for $50 off of an extra container. The offer to get an extra container for $99 (as opposed to retail) applies to refurbs the same way that it applies to new machines! For composting, I'd get another 64 oz. for sure! I used to really fill mine up before buzzing it...
