North Idaho Couple Sponsors a “ & ” Writing

Contest, Their Home to be Awarded to the Winner!

Kooskia, Idaho, July 17, 2000— & Margaret Gray of

Kooskia, Idaho, are sponsors of the “Gateway to the

Wilderness essay contest”. The best short story or

tall tail surrounding the & Corps of

Discovery expedition, wins their rural Idaho home &

acreage! They are encouraging humor, fiction, &

amazing stories; & plan to publish the best selections

in celebration of the “ & bi-centennial”.

They believe that the contest is a creative way sell

their home. The contest deadlines on the first

occurrence of two thousand entries, or midnight August

31, 2000, & has an entry fee of $100.00 U.S..

The couple did some creative financing

allowing Margaret to open a small local coffee shop. A

couple of years went by while the little coffee shop

weathered the turmoil of establishing it’s presence in

the community. The Grays then decided that they should

sell their home in order to extinguish the debt

created from the financing needed to start what is now

known as “Margie’s Coffee Confectionery” in Kooskia.

Inspired by an article in one of his old back

to the land magazines, came up with the idea to

run an essay contest as a creative way to sell their

home. Soon family & friends got behind the idea and

began encouraging the Grays. The idea evolved into a

full blown contest, having an interesting theme, it’s

own Web site, and a home with a gorgeous view going to

the winner. The Grays believe the unique theme will

inspire works worthy of publication.
