,

We are having unseasonably spring like weather here in Upstate NY and I wanted

to break out my solar oven for the first time. Will leave for work in the AM

around 5:30, well before daylight and wanted to load it up tonight. To try

roasting a winter squash, can I put it dry & whole in an enamel roaster?

Covered or not? or do I have to cut it up? Then I think I will try a veggie

soup, that cancer on with all the veggies that you cook whole, then puree in

the VM. Will that work do you think??

TIA

Hi, Carol. Yes, you can put the squash in tonight (dry, no water, whole, uncut)

and just set it so the oven is aimed where it will get direct sunlight for the

best part of the day tomorrow-you will come home to a nice cooked squash! Of

course you wouldn't do this with meat, but I do it with my veggies all the time.

Covered or uncovered, doesn't really matter as far as the pot goes. I usually

DO cover them, but not necessary, nor is cutting it up-which is why it is so

wonderful, nice and easy! Let me know how it turns out!

have looked at some. Would love a recommendation! I was given the below for my birthday from my in-laws and it has come in very handy. kind of like a crock pot but after the initial boiling not plugged in/no energy needed. Nice to leave or go to sleep without thinking about it! Has worked great for broths & chicken but not so great for beans. We are happy with it and happy it was a gift as not cheap! Will be nice to get the soup going and then put in the car for a hot meal as we travel. Not leak proof, fyi.Tiger NFA-B800 8 Liter Magic Thermal Cooker

There are a lot of people making heat retention cookers these days

for a whole lot less than that one cost. IT does look nice, but wow

the cost. The Magic type Cookers used to be called Hay box cookers

and Heat Retention Cookers.  Here are some examples, to give you

ideas on using your new toy.

As to solar, I am very happy with the Sport Solar Oven, which

in this group helped me get on a group buy.

Have fun.

, sorry I didn't get back to you sooner. I am actually putting together another group buy for the solar sports now. Our price is 184 for the works, including shipping and reflectors. You can see it at http://www.mymealmasters.com in the webstore, but order by emailing me at berrywell@... to get the better price than what is on the website. Sorry I am so behind catching up on emails...quite the day today.Sent from my iPadOn Mar 16, 2012, at 12:58 AM, hai quan <hai@...> wrote:
