HI Chris:

Thanks for the kind words and encouragement. I also got a great message

from Dr. Chansky which I have to read in detail and thank her for.

I wish Dr. Baer were Steve's doctor (although I really think Steve has a

great doctor in Dr. Dan!). Dr. Baer is the author of " Getting Control " and

we were lucky enough to get an " Ask the Experts " consultation with him at

the 1998 OCF conference in St. Louis. He has treated many, many OCDers and

is very familiar with the different kinds of obsessions they have.

I'm not sure what other parents have seen but I know that Steve seems to

have a bit of all the flavors of OCD. His checking is minimal and so is his

hoarding (mostly inability to discard things which he has overvalued).

Although we are not religious, he has quite a bit of scrupulosity which

seems more prevalent now he is entering puberty. Of course he has had

contamination OCD, " just so " OCD, and violent obsessions to the max before

his treatment.

Dr. Baer is incredibly knowledgeable and I believe he knows that OCD takes

over all the most precious parts of a person's life and taunts them. This

means that probably all OCDers have sexual obsessions of one kind or

another. I have met a few who would discuss this, have read some personal

accounts about it, have read a very little about it in OCD books, and have

read on the OCD-FAMILY list about how these obsessions (an also

contamination OCD) interfere in the marital lives of many members. Studies

have shown that statistically males with OCD are much less likely to marry

and have children.

Thanks again for your encouragement, take care, aloha, Kathy (H)
