Guest guest
Dear List Members, It's been quiet on our little list. I would like to talk to those of you whose children have had good results with CBT and then experienced a backslide. Our daughter is in a pretty serious one right now. I was enjoying her progress so much that, now that we're back almost to square one, I am really anxious and panicky. I know this is part of the process, but can those who have been there give me any tips on how to get through this? Thanks so much, Lesli
Guest guest
Hi Lesli, My older son has recently experienced increased frequency in episodes of depression. The episodes have also been more intense than they had been in the past. My wife is taking him to see his psychiatrist this afternoon armed with a recommendation from Dr. Jenike that we add Wellbutrin to the Zoloft and Buspar that he currently takes. One of the disturbing features of our life with OCD is the expectation of setbacks with OCD. We all know that most people with OCD experience " waxing and waning " with their OCD. We enjoy those times when our OCD'er is relatively symptom free and we come to dread those times when increased OCD activity is triggered. Sometimes I can figure out what triggers these episodes of increased symptoms; however, sometimes the triggering factor remains a mystery to me. Take care. Louis ocdnet@... Guest guest
Hi , I didn't post to the group because I have no advice to offer regarding your daughter's setback, but I wanted you to know how sorry I am to hear of it. I can understand the anxious and panicky feelings you are having--in my own short course of Kellen's illness we have several times had better and hopeful days, followed by dramatic worsening caused by what I don't know. These have been devastating to me. OCD is just heartbreaking. Of course my daughter's OCD ups and downs are not related to CBT, we just haven't been doing that long enough to see any improvement from it, but they have been hard and discouraging. I hope andra's downturn is short-lived and she is soon able to return to her previous level of progress. I am thinking of you, Kathy R.
