Guest guest
I just finished cooking my chickpeas to toss into smoothies and am wondering ... is it necessary to remove the skins before blending? I've googled this question and various pages say to throw the skins away--that they make for a less creamy dish; others say they're edible. Opinions, anyone? Thanks! Guest guest
The Vitamix can handle the skins-will turn them to velvet, like most things, lol! > > > I just finished cooking my chickpeas to toss into smoothies and am wondering .... is it necessary to remove the skins before blending? Guest guest
I have never "peeled" chickpeas, but then I usually use them for humos made in the VM rather than smoothies. The skins are quite thin and once blended I don't think you would notice. Guest guest
Some people are bothered by flatulence from garbanzo beans and it helps reduce that problem to remove the skins, if you don't have a problem with that, no worries! Soaking them in water for 8 hours and then rinsing them several times helps reduce the starch, which helps solve the problem also. If you are sprouting them and using them in their raw state, chopping them up in the Vita-Mix at a medium speed and then rinsing several times until the water runs clear helps dramatically and improves the flavor! ---------------------Rene Oswald, RN, APHBest Beginnings, Inc.
