Guest guest
Dianna, A few months ago we all had a discussion about how our families have/have not been supportive of our children's dz. I certainly can empathize with what you wrote about your family not understanding the dual dz. When we recently had our other child, age 17, evaluated and found out that he was ADD, my mother was not only unconvinced but somewhat angry. Her perception of BOTH kids are that they are lazy and spoiled. I have decided NOT to let family reactions deter me from being the best parent I can be to my children. I simply turn to other support systems, especially this group, when I have OCD concerns. Gail in N'Awlins
Guest guest
Hi Gail--it took me a while, but I learned that too! I learned to steel myself against the looks and criticisms of those, including family, who just " don't get it " . Like many here, I have plenty of horror stories, thanks to my wonderfully dysfunction and in-denial family...but I also have a great support network of real " family " who do get it--mostly because they are either super understanding or have a special challenge in their family too. I consider them, and all of you, a great blessing. Together, we are never alone! Take good care, << Dianna, A few months ago we all had a discussion about how our families have/have not been supportive of our children's dz.
