Guest guest
FYI, yes, we have Bird's Custard powder in the U.S., at least in the Washington, DC metro area. That being said, I usually order mine from http://www.jollygrub.com I love Birds Custard. It's very handy to have in the pantry. I flavor it sometimes by adding some Maple or other flavor. Guest guest
It's a powder that you mix with milk, cook, to make custard. Just like you'd make jello pudding that you cook only it's a zillion times tastier. It tastes like you started with egg yolks and cream. <g> I use it for a lot if desserts. When I make a dessert souffle I make Bird's Custard hit to pour into the souffle at service. How many ways do you use it . I'm open for yummy recipes you make in the U.K. Terry Sent from my iPadHD On Apr 17, 2012, at 9:50 AM, " crenita2 " <crenita@...> wrote: > what is Custard Powder ???????? > > >> >>> OH WOWOWOWOW.....those sound amazing!! >>> >>> I love that little gizmo... have a ton of fun with it .. and best of all portion controlled.. >>> >>> Now I have to try some of those ideas... Guest guest
I almost always put a bit if cognac in the Bird's as it comes off the stove. Sometimes another flavor like rum or Chambord but I do love the cognac. Guest guest
You can order in on amazon.com G From: <berrywell@...> Sent: Tuesday, April 17, 2012 9:50 PM Subject: Re: any good pie filling recipes?? You are probably thinking of Devon custard, which comes in a can. While Devon is tasty, it is no comparison to Birds custard, which is simply delicious, smooth and creamy. I was raised on it! I no longer use it, since it is cornstarch based, and I am allergic to corn, but I have devised a fairly reasonable version of my own using tapioca starch...but it is NOT Birds! Yummm! I have made ice cream custard from it, by freezing the cubes and buzzing them up in the Vitamix, have drizzled it over baked apples, apple dumplings, plum fritters, poached pears, etc-LOVELY served hot over any stewed or baked fruit. I used to use it in place of pancake syrup, with some fresh berries stirred in to it. MAJOR comfort food when just eaten steaming hot out of a coffee mug, especially when you don't feel well or have had dental work done. I can't think of anything that isn't better with Birds! > > >> > > >>> OH WOWOWOWOW.....those sound amazing!! > > >>> > > >>> I love that little gizmo... have a ton of fun with it .. and best of all portion controlled.. > > >>> > > >>> Now I have to try some of those ideas...
