Hi! My name is Dawn and I live in Buffalo, NY. I have CMT, am 35 and was dgnsd

at about 18. I am also a graduate of a local college and have a B.S. degree. I

studied Occupational Therapy, (got mostly A's), and learned about disabilites on

a cellular, neurological and chemical level. I am a mom who is now single so I

take care of my son myself as well as work full time to support us. My son is

three, extremely bright (which he gets from his mom - me) and shows absolutely

no signs of CMT. Eventhough I am from Buffalo, my then-husband and my one mo.

old son moved to Fla thinking the warmer weather would be better for me.

Wrong!!!!!

The stifling heat and humidity caused me to feel so much weaker and my hands

have since gotten harder to use. Anyway, my son and I are back here in Buffalo

(just moved back Sept 04) and am already feeling SO MUCH MORE ENERGY! I would

not recommend hot and humid weather like Fla for anyone with CMT. While I lived

in Fla for 3 yrs I worked as a Certified Home Health Aide and saw a woman with

MS who was from Michigan.

She was sorry she moved there too and said the heat made her weak; so, I THINK

THERE IS A CONNECTION since MS is also a demyelination of the nerve cells

although wit MS, the central nervous system is affected and with CMT, it's the

peripheral nerves, so we are luckier in a way. Well, it's nice to " talk " to

someone about what I've learned (through school and work) so I am glad to be in

this roup. However, my hands don't feel so well so I will stop for now.

Glad to be a member. I think this group will be very productive for me.

Dawn
