Guest guest
Hi Betty: I hope all goes well for your son's surgery this summer. Sick Kids is a great hospital, one of the best world wide. I see my neurologist once a year in Mississauga. I do get a good physical and I am checked for motor skills and sensation. My feet are very numb and I have hammer toes. My hands are also numb with a great deal of constant pain in my fingers. I sure do hate this cold weather, or my hands and feet hate it. I am always in more pain this time of year because it is so easy to get my hands and feet cold. I truly question your doctors comments about not being able to have DNA testing for CMT done in Canada. That is simply not true. I had my DNA test done at the Department of Laboratory Medicine of the Credit Valley Hospital. in November of 2000 (905)813-4104. I have a letter signed by Dr. Tuya Pal - MDCM, FRCPC, FCCMG - Clinical Geneticist stating that the DNA results confirmed that I have CMT1A. There was no cost for the test as it was covered by OHIP. They simply took 2 small biles of blood and indicated I would know the results within a month. I was provided several copies of the letter to give to my siblings. The letter would allow them to have DNA tests done. My younger brother had his DNA test done in Halifax...he also has CMT1A. My neurologist ordered the DNA testing for CMT based on a nerve conduction study that showed absent SAP's and slow motor nerves. I hope this helps regarding DNA testing.
