Guest guest
Hi all- first, thanks again for the information on various ways to do the walking in Alaska and on the ship. Several of you replied privately and I will reply to you, when I can send email again. It's broken and I don't know how to fix it. I'm hoping for a repair tomorrow- at least my ISP is going to work on it. Jen, you didn't give up, you gained acceptance. It took me about 5 years, after my orthopedic doc. suggested AFOs, to actually get them. I wouldn't know what to do without them now. I've used wheelchairs for places like DisneyWorld and am thinking of a scooter to reduce the stress and strain of every day moving around. My supervisor asked me recently if CMT affected my thinking. I've had an extremely busy year and I know, as a result, have not been as mentally sharp, at times. I told him that CMT doesn't affect cognitive abilities directly, but the effort to not fall down can lead to considerable fatigue, sometimes affecting mental sharpness, at least for me. You work in a demanding profession, physically and mentally. Use the tools available to you. I just started teaching a college class and quickly found I have to sit most of the time or I'm miserable afterward. Butch, it has to be frightening. I have had symptoms most of my life, yet every time the CMT advances, I have to regain acceptance and this is not always easy (see above about AFOs). Thanks everyone, you've been a great help. I hope I have been of help, as well. Jim
