Guest guest
Hi Chris Haven't read the book, but we have been meeting with Mark after 's sessions with Downs. He is a very quiet, yet easy to communicate with for . He tries to find strengths to provide a sense of pride, and then works on ways to strengthen the weaknesses. For example, he has suggested for to be sure to review his daily class notes within 6-8 hours of taking them. Based on 's testing, he has pointed out that individuals with his strengths make good lawyers. Quite a boost for someone struggling with grades. Separately, he has visited 's school on behalf of another student/family and will be providing 'in service' sessions for instructors to help them realize that one single testing method may not be appropriate to really test/evaluate each student. Haven't gone yet, but I think the Center also has group sessions for parents to help them deal with improving the weaknesses and building on the already existent strengths. jim in san diego jjmcf@... Guest guest
Jim, As a social worker - the techniques mentioned below are terrific. That is always a good way to build a persons self esteem. Aside from the fact that has terrific potential, it must make such a difference to know that he can be who ever he wants to be!! Once again, you San Diego folks are making me envious!! take care, wendy ===================== >Hi Chris >>Haven't read the book, but we have been meeting with Mark after >'s sessions with Downs. Guest guest
Not sure if I'm going to order this book, but this is exactly the message I've been giving my daughter (12). I tell her that I understand and sympathize with the fact that she's been given a lot to deal with at her age, and how its totally not fair, and how she has the right to be upset at what her lot in life is. I then go on to give lecture # 497 which consists of telling her what some other children also have to deal with, and how you make choices in life to either lie down and die, or to fight to become all you can be and not become whatever your problems are. Its nice to feel validated with this approach. I guess I will order the book. Ellen in NY
Guest guest
Ellen in NY, When Adi was 12 she read " Kissing Doorknobs " which is about a teen with undiagnosed OCD and how it effected her relationships, was misdiagnosed, etc. Its humourous and serious. Adi was able to see herself in many of the situations. She also lent it to friends, and then explained how she is like the girl in the story. Adi's friends are her biggest support group, aside from the ocdteen list. I would recommend it to . wendy, in canada ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com
Guest guest
Chris: The books sounds interesting -- I just ordered it from OhioLink (interlibrary) and we can discuss it in a couple weeks. Maybe wwe could start a book club? :-) BTW, I want to thank whoever posted the info recommending March's book. I borrowed it from OhioLink and it is fantastic! I just ordered a personal copy and showed it to Aiden's therapist who ordered a copy for himself on the spot. Jule in Cleveland
Guest guest
Hi Again, We just recently Purchased 10 copies of this book and are distributing them to various teachers, family members, ect. so they may have a better understanding of the life of a child with OCD. Response has been very positive. Terry Brown in WI Re: Book title >From: " W.
