Guest guest
Dear ers, In December, while ordering stamps for Christmas Cards I wondered why no one had ever come up with a postage stamp for CMT. So I did some research and wrote a proposal to the Citizens Stamp Advisory Committee at the U.S. Postal Service. I proposed a new postage stamp to 1) honor A. Barlett Giamatti (former USA Baseball Commissioner who had CMT) and 2) to thus increase awareness of CMT. I received the following reply today: " Dear Gretchen Glick, Thank you for your recent correspondence and suggestion for a new postage stamp honoring A. Bartlett Giamatti and CMT syndrome. Each year, the Postal Service receives thousands of suggestions for new postage stamps. As the number of stamps we make is limited, the Citizen's Stamp Advisory Committee was established in 1967 to review all suggestions and make recommendations for new stamps to the Postmaster General. The Committee Members base their recommendations on national interest, historical perspective and other criteria. There is no specific time frame for the issuance of stamps featuring a particular subject. The Committee decides on new stamp subjects two to three years in advance of the issue date in order to provide lead-time for planning, designing, production, and distribution. Although many of the subjects for upcoming new stamps have been identified, no public announcement is made until the entire philatelic program for that year has been approved. This normally occurs in the fall preceeding the year of issuance. Your suggestions are being reviewed and comments are being included in the Committee's files. With appreciation, Stamp Services at the USPS " *****OK, now, who knows where this will lead, but I just had this idea and figured I would do what I could - and see how it turns out. Of course, I am my naturally optimistic self on this project too Gretchen " We shall see " , said the blind man... ---------- Internal Virus Database is out-of-date. Checked by AVG Anti-Virus.
