I, too, had serious concerns when I was considering upgrading from my stainless

Vitamix to the new container. I am allergic to most plastics, and go to great

lengths to avoid them in my home, which is, of course, virtually impossible. I

did a LOT of research before buying my 5200 Vitamix, and because of the severe

issues I had had in the past with plastics, I was hesitant, but after not

reacting when trying a friends Vitamix, I went ahead and got my 5200. I was

quite nervous to do soup in it, since I know heat releases plastics offgassing

that may not occur during cooler usage, but I am THRILLED to report, I had no

issues at all. I am sort of like the canary in the coal mine-if I don't react,

it isn't likely others will either, since I am SO sensitive. I have been using

my 5200 for almost two years now, and I make soup in it at LEAST once a day,

often more, and I also make sauces and gravies in it-no problems at all. Having

had to part with a VAST amount of kitchen gadgets, silicone cookware, plastic

based utensils, etc., I had a lot of hesitation about investing in the 5200, but

I actually realize now that I am better off than with my 4000 SS model, which

contained nickel. Hope this gives you a bit of insight.

Hello Arlene,Vitamix has researched glass for years, but high powered blenders and glass are simply a bad mix - no matter how thick (gets really heavy) you make the glass, it just can't stand up to 37,000 RPMS when something like a stray date pit gets flung into it (by comparison, a regular blender only spins at 10,000 RPMs).I trust that the copolyester is safe, but we can never know for sure unless we become scientists and run our own tests! The way I think about the question about the copolyester and the possibility that chemicals are leading is the same as what I think about eating foods that aren't organic. I do the best that I can and, "eating a conventional apple is better than eating a Snickers Bar any day".In this case, I'd say, "eating soup made in a Vitamix (additive, preservative, and MSG -free, beats eating 's any day" :-)

I just bought the 5200 model and was surprised to hear that both the wet and dry containers are not made of glass but are made from a plastic called eastman tritan copolyester. I googled this material and although some people feel it is very safe with no BPA others say it has not been thoroughly tested. I am worried because I like to use the vitamix to make hot soups and fear the release of plasticides when the container is heated. Does anyone have information on this issue. Thanks,Arlene Lapidus

The reason this list is so wonderful is that YOU are!

Thank you so much for this, and I will contact you privately.

And my apologies for not answering sooner, but we travel a bit for business

and have been gone.

(And oh boy do I have a lot of messages to go through!)
