Guest guest
I would question that ad. If I'm not mistaken, Novartis still has a patent that prevents a generic being made. Guest guest
Hi Lottie, The generic that is being sold in Australia is actually made in India. India has been making and selling a generic version for some years now and despite Novartis taking them to court, I believe they are still selling it over there. It's called " Veenat " over there. Take care, Tracey > > I notice that there is an ad for generic Glevic (Gleevec) from MedstoreInternational.com - Sydney, NSW, Australia in our list. Guest guest
Hi Tracey, If you go to their site http://www.medstoreinternational.com/buy-Gleevec.php you will find it quite interesting. A close look at the fine print states that the generic Gleevec is sourced in India. ( Generic Imatinib Mesylate is sourced from a USFDA or MHRA(UK) approved manufacturer in India.) Even more interesting are the prices: 1 month of 400 mg tablets is $525, 1 month of 100 mg capsules is $1188. They don't sell any generic 100 mg tablets. I was under the impression that India produced a generic Gleevec for sale in India for Indians. Also, I have never seen any comparisons between generic Gleevec and Novartis Gleevec. Guest guest
G'day Lottie, I have been AWOL a bit as busy at work and away for work conference....can't keep up with everything! Great to hear Jimmy is on the road to recovery - my best friend is having a double/triple bypass next week, so is going to be a trying time for us also. I was interested re the generic imatinib as mine is in a genuine packet marked Novartis Glivec, so sounds a bit suss. Australia is generally not a dumping ground for pharmaceuticals and I thought as it is still under patent another drug company couldn't manufacture it, but it appears so. There is only one online pharmacy that I would use in Oz called Pharmacy Direct. I am going to be off until next week as I am off to my daughters to visit and catch up with my 8 year old grand daughter who had her birthday last week (first time my husband and I have missed it) and then I have been able to get an appointment to see Prof in Adelaide and hopefully get on a Tasingna trial as now been off Glivec for 3 weeks and finally getting back to feeling like " me " . So I will be travelling on to have that next Monday. So hopefully I will have good news next week and Tasi will be the drug that I can tolerate. Guest guest
Lottie No this is the first time I have heard of it. I do not use on-line pharmacies - I use my own local pharmacy, so that all my medication can be obtained on one print-out for my Australian Medicare Safety Net. For those of you who do not know re: Safety Net - is when your medications that are on National Schemes not over the counter medications get to a certain dollar amount - you get a rebate and pay for your medications on a cheaper rate. Also you can use for your tax rebates at the end of the year. Therefore if I buy at the same place - benefit all round. Sorry I cannot be of much help Lottie Sue
