Guest guest
Hey Elise & Newbies. . . I am a 5-year Survivor who sends out a 'Welcome Newbie Letter' to newly diagnosed Sister & Brother Survivors. Please post or email me your complete email address and I will get the WNL out to you ASAP. I began sending out my WNL in early 2005 after I Survived a very morbid mortality with 15+ fatal/terminal/Chronic Diseases. . .all of which I call Chronic Illnesses. I get Newbies email addresses from their posts to the groups and after reading your post; I know how overwhelming it can be due to several Sister Survivors dubbing me Queen of the Side Effects and I became somewhat of a 'Cheerleader' for the group due to my 'upbeat' attitude in spite of my overall health. I have been ill and hospitalized and while catching up on my mail, I realize that I have missed newbie Sister & Brother survivors. Please email me and I will get the WNL out to you. Take care, know that I have added you to my prayers. . . " K " " K " " I AIN'T FINISHED YET " !!!

Guest guest
Hi Jo-Dee, welcome to this wonderful site. I too am from Ohio, a little south of cleveland. What meds are you on, and do you go to a cml specialist? Also, what led you to go to the doctor when you were diagnosed? This is a good site, lots of folks with lots of info, and lots of compassion. Guest guest
Hi Jo-Dee, Welcome to the club that nobody really wants to be a member of. Based on your WBC of 62000 you have reached the first milestone in your Gleevec treatment which is CHR or a Complete Hematological Response. The next step will be to achieve a MCR (Major Cytogenic Response) followed by a CCR (Complete Cytogenic Response). Achieving CCR within one year just about guarantees you that your CML will be a chronic disease requiring only one pill a day to live a full life. CCR also gets you a number in the Zero Club and I am looking forward to assigning one to you soon. Continue to ask questions. This group is very knowledgeable when it comes to CML. Guest guest
Hi! thanks for the reply! I am on 400 mg of Gleevec once a day. I don't know if my hemotologist/oncologist is a specialist but he seems very knowledgeable. I believe God has a plan for everyone and everything. I went to see my family doctor because I was able to stop taking high blood pressure meds last summer. She checks on me about every three months. I was in the waiting room and the doctor took back the patient before me. I was put in a room and no one came. Much later, the nurse stuck her head in and asked if would be willing to see the nurse practioner as my doctor was violently ill in the restroom. (later dx with gall bladder that had to be removed.) The NP was looking over my file and suggested a complete blood screen since it had been more that two years since I had had one. I had blood drawn on Friday, January 4th at 7:30 am. On Saturday morning at 8:08 am the doctor on call telephoned me that she felt my blood count was higher than a simple infection would make them. I was admitted to the hospital on Sunday evening, bone marrow biopsy on Tuesday morning and that afternoon we got what my nurse daughter calls, " The best worst news we could have gotten. " CML! My highest WBC was 177,000 one week before I started Gleevec. The next week it was 156,000 and then 40,000 and then 6200. When I had blood drawn at the end of March my numbers were all good except that platlets were a little low. (Normal 140,000 to 150,000? mine were 123,000) I have so many questions!! I am leaving work now, so I will talk to you later!! Jo-Dee ROBERTA DOYLE <rcd1929@...> wrote: Hi Jo-Dee, welcome to this wonderful site. I too am from Ohio, a little south of cleveland. Guest guest
Greetings, I have noticed the word " digest " in several e-mails. What does it mean on this chat site? Like what does this subject line mean? Can you tell that I am a newbie? I have had problems with a Gleevec rash and have had to stop the Gleevec again. I am now on prednisone and the rash is going away. I look forward to starting it again. Luckily, some of you veterans have suggested that I e-mail Dr. Druker and his nurse Carolyn which I have done. They have been great and I have an appointment with Dr. Druker on May 1. That makes me feel very optimistic. Thanks for all of the information and support exchange that each of you offers. I have benefitted greatly and I am grateful. I haven't made much progress since I was diagnosed on Dec. 31-07. I have real problems having my body accept the Gleevec. I hope that I will cooperate with Gleevec when I restart itthis time.
