The predisposition to OCD and tic disorders is definitely hereditary --

which doesn't mean you're at fault, or that all of your children will

have OCD, or that everyone who has OCD carries the " OCD genes " because

there *might* be some other way for it to start.

Just to give you an example, my father has obsessive-compulsive behaviors

and anxiety attacks, I have OCD, both of my children have OCD. But we are

all soooo different in what we obsess about, worry about, compulsions we

do etc. I found out last year that my mom's nickname in school was

" Twitchy Ritchie " - hmm, wonder what THAT was about <grin>? Although she

doesn't have any tics now, I have some tic-like things I do, my daughter

has had the occasional tic, and my son has full-blown Tourette's syndrome.

Anyway, the genes involved (it is probably more than one) haven't been

identified yet or anything, although the geneticists have narrowing

things down to a few possible chromosomes. It looks like they may be in

the same area as the genes that code for the immune system, which would

make sense because of the autoimmune reaction to strep and some other

infectious agents that some people with OCD and/or Tourette's have.

Oh, argumentative - YES! My daughter is just plain irritable and, as my

husband says when he's being polite, witchy a lot of the time. Ian is

also stubborn as a mule and can be pretty scrappy to get what he wants,

even up to being downright sneaky (which allegedly autistic-spectrum kids

can't be...the researchers who made this claim should meet mine, LOL.) I

think it's this determination and stubbornness that helps them get

through it all though...although it may drive ME crazy!
