Guest guest
, Welcome to the group. My son Jake was diagnosed at 3 1/2 months and we did the "wait and see" thing for about 8 months before we convinced our ortho to brace. He was slowly progressing, and I had to push for the brace. Now after our 3rd opinion we finally casted him in November; he was 15 months old at the time. My advice is to be aggressive in his treatment should he need it and should his condition warrant it. We wasted nearly 12 months of precious growing time before taking serious action. Arm yourself with knowledge to help you make the best decision for your son. Good luck and keep us posted. mom to and Jakebasketsnboyds <basketsnboyds@...> wrote: My son Evan is 16 weeks old and we had noticed a curve in his back-his first visit to a Ped. Guest guest
Did you see another specialist for a 2nd opinion? I do want x-rays re-done at the follow-up appointment to make sure it hasn't progressed. Thanks so much for the advice. Viveiros <jviv314@...> wrote: , Welcome to the group. Guest guest
My 1st opinion was from our local ortho. Our 2nd opinion was another ortho in Boston, MA who specializes in spinal deformities. Our 3rd opinion at Erie Shriners was with a doc who does specialize in infantile scoliosis. He is the only guy who we saw (and are seeing) that did specialize in this field. They should x-ray Evan again at the next visit. Good luck and keep us posted. mom to and Jake <basketsnboyds@...> wrote: Did you see another specialist for a 2nd opinion? Hi and welcome, you could have saved yourself five years of college cost had you joined the group ealier. You*re probably the right person to answer this question: Is it the Grains of Paradise (Aframomum melegueta) that give the ancient Egyptian mommies that peculiar smell I notice everytime I*m visiting a major museum? In fact, we are starting to become aware of just how much more trade was going on between the ancient Middle Eastern civilizations than previously thought. For example, nutmeg has been found in an Egyptian tomb, and it is native to the Moluccas, Indonesia! Ancient Egypt imported luxury items from many places such as Turkey, Afghanistan, Iran, Iraq, Sudan, Ethiopia, Arabia, India, etc. However, to my knowledge, there is no archaeological evidence of imports from the area of Africa to which grains of paradise is native, such as Ghana. The cairo museum wasn't climate controlled either. There were various mummies elsewhere along the routes, including crocodiles. I do remember being so amazed that things were so relaxed and " touchable " . Compared at least to this country. Patti Who certainly hopes to return to Egypt someday. Mummy room. Wild five-year-old child who knows no bounds touches mummies. They were on raised supports, barely one foot off the floor. Faces, hands, wrappings. Fascinated by buck teeth of one mummy. Touched. Went on my own tour, as usual, apart from adults, wandered into back storage rooms, etc. Don't remember touching the not-previously living stuff, but did that in later years at The Art Museum -- always made it a mission to find the oldest artifact I could there, and, yes, touch it. I dont' remember a smell of any sort there, and I was already a sniffaholic. Things just smelled - old. Guest guest
I know its frustrating and you are doing a great job advocationg for your daughter, shes lucky to have such a caring mom !! THe sores my daughter gets have a white ring around them and red or yellow center, she gets them on her lips, inside of cheeks and under her tounge and eshophogus. BUT my daughter soes not always have the fevers, she'll get all the other symptoms of but only like every three times does she get a fever with it.-- ALL kids are diffrent, Keep looking for a DR that will listen I keep a journal and take photos of each episode, that seems to help too Good luck Shumate <shumate_jess@...> wrote: Hi, my name is . I'm a 25 year old single mom of 2. My son is 11 months and my daughter is 4 years. My daughter, Maddi Mae has been a healthy, average little girl. In June she began running fevers up to 104.5 with Motrin/Tylenol alternation. The Dr. would run the regular CBC's and Urine tests and everything always came back fine. I would hear, " it's just a stomach bug. " However, there was never dirreah, vomitting, no ear infection, no congestion, no signs of illness of any type. After going through this for a week and the fever finally subsiding I could rest. Before I know it, it's September and I'm beginning to notice a pattern to all of this. I began wondering if it were hormonal, called her Endocrinologist we saw nearly 3 years ago. She was even referred upon my request to a Dr. at St. Louis Children's Hospital (we're in southeast Missouri) at the Diagnostic Center. I explained everything to him, and he blew me off. I haven't been able to get anyone to take me serious. We've even seen our regular peditrician with every episode. I've seen 2 of our peditricians here, a Dr. at Children's, a Nurse Practioner here, an ER Dr. here. The ER Dr. told me her throat was red, but she had no complaints. The next day we went to see her ped. and it was not. One other time she did have a red throat. Could this be the sores? Can they disappear that quickly with no medicine other than Motrin/Tylenol? I found a Dr. here that will listen to me, but his nurse is related by marriage to my ex-husband and I can't get through to the Dr. I talked to him one time by catching him on call. She does complain of joint pain occasionally, but not with the fevers necessarily. She has a MAJOR light sensitivity a lot lately, not just with the fevers. This last week, she had the fevers, but I was able to maintain them since they're so predictible, and she drank well, kept the fever low and 2 times she went over 13 hours without urinating and one time went 26 hours without. Her urine tests, CBC's came back fine. They have done an upper X-Ray to look for swollen glands. The Dr. that will listen said if he did every test he wanted done she'd need a transfusion. I'm still waiting back for much of the results. Urine culture was fine as well. The fever was last week. Is there anything that shows up when the fevers are not present or do I have to wait till another one comes back? She's being tested for Epstein Bar Virus, Lime's Disease, Erlickia (sp?), and several other tick biting diseases. Her Rhuematoid Factor was negative. I also want to know what else should be ruled out? The nurse pulled up a site on this , but they are blowing me off. From what I've read most of it, other than her not having sores fits to a T. Another thing, when they asked me if she has sores in her mouth, I looked along the gum area. I found a site last night that showed the sores more towards the throat area. Is there anything I can or can't look for to help rule out or in? I'm so glad I've found people that at least know what it's like to deal with these fevers. The highest hers has been is 104.5, the longest it has lasted is 9 days, and they come back every 21 days and 12 hours from the start of the last one. Thanks so much!!! Guest guest
, My daughter has had symptoms of Pfapa for 21/2 years but the sores in her mouth just started this year. We are lucky that we found a rheumatologist that was willing to label and treat her for Pfapa. In the beginning we were constantly told it was a viral infection even though she was sick every 6-8 weeks. this syndrome seems to have many different faces that show up in different children. Be persistant in your questioning. The specialists only took us seriously when I went in with a year at a glance calendar I had evry day that she was sick circled. I also had charted symptoms each month. This made it clear for them that she is sick in cycles. Good luck Kris (mom of age 5) > Hi, my name is . I'm a 25 year old single mom of 2. My son is > 11months and my daughter is 4 years. My daughter, Maddi Mae has been > a healthy, average little girl. In June she began running fevers up > to 104.5 with Motrin/Tylenol alternation. The Dr. would run the > regular CBC's and Urine tests and everything always came back fine. I > would hear, " it's just a stomach bug. Guest guest
Hey there Christie! I'm actually considering going to nursing school. How do you like it? How does your schedule work with kids at home?? Lizzie > > Hi ladies! I'm Christie 28yrs old, and I'm new to BFL. I did the Ab's diet before and loved it, it's similar to BFL. I thought the foods and plan were really easy to stick to. The hardest thing for me is all the cooking and making the food ahead of time. I have a really busy schedule and two little ones, so prepackaged and quick foods are my right hand lately. But I'm ready to put in the work and get moving! About a year and a half ago I went from 170lbs to 114lbs (I'm 5'1 " ), but moving out of state and starting nursing school caused me to put diet and exercise on the back burner. I'm back up to 134lbs now : ( ,but I'm ready to get back in the game and get back down to 115lbs. I have a feeling I'm going to need some support from you all at times, and I'll be here to share recipes and support also. Guest guest
Hi ! You bring up lots of good questions. I'm so sorry to hear about your loss, but I think it's wonderful that you are taking on this challenge to become healthy. I'm sure he would be proud of you. If you are still hungry, try eating a little more at your meals. You might not be eating enough. Also, if the cardio isn't great, don't try to " make up for it " . Just make your next cardio session twice as intense. As for your free day, you can set it up how you want. I use Saturday as my free day, but I still do light exercise on this day. A lot of people take their eating free day one day and exercise free day on another day. I wish you luck with your challenge. 5 pounds is awesome! A lot of women are complaining at week 6 that they haven't lost that much! Keep up the great work! <rachel@...> wrote: Hi! I just joined I began the 12 week challenge on Monday 2/20 and I feel great! (The scale is even down 5 lbs, must be water but it still is exciting) Our oldest son died in June and I packed on 30 lbs in about 2 months after that, the way I was eating I am surprised it wasn't more. I have a couple of questions 1: I am not going to use Sunday as my free day but Tuesday isn't b/c that is date night for DH and me, should I exercise on Sunday and then take the day off exercise on Tuesday? 2: Some days I am still hungry even though I have eaten all my meals, should I just ignore the hunger or eat something small? 3: My cardio wasn't so great this morning should I just call it a loss or try to make up for it with more cardio? Thanks!
Guest guest
Welcome to the club Racheal. If you consistently have date night on Tuesday go ahead and make that your free day, the actual day of the week doesn't matter. I would be inclined to not do the work out on that day either, but I'm not sure it makes a difference. Barbara

I currently don't do free day but on my first 3 challenges I did my free eat day on a different day then my free exercise day. Just worked out best. I don't make up cardio unless it is recreational cardio. When I first started I'd be hungry by the end of the day. I'd eat some veggies or fruit about your lowest calorie choices and try to fill up on water. Michele T. On Sat, 25 Feb 2006 17:18:31 -0000 " " <rachel@...> writes: > Hi! Guest guest
Thanks Barbara. My biggest problem right now is I want to work out more I am used to 2 hour workouts (of course they weren't high intensity and they didn't help) I am already looking forward to my workout on Monday Re: New Member Welcome to the club Racheal. If you consistently have date night on Tuesday go ahead and make that your free day, the actual day of the week doesn't matter. I would be inclined to not do the work out on that day either, but I'm not sure it makes a difference. Barbara
Guest guest
Thanks Michele. I have tried upping my portions just a bit and will see if that will help. I think I will keep my no exercise day on Sunday and just use Tuesday for my free eating day Re: New Member Welcome ! I admire that you have gotten back on your feet after such a loss. Guest guest
Welcome to the group. I love the term " happy fat. " That seems to happen to a lot of married couples. Let us know how it's going and if you have any questions.
