Guest guest
You can visit the files section for some good articles... Plagiocephaly/files/%20Experimental/ What kind of band will your son be wearing? If it is a DOC band, the cranial tech website (www.cranialtech.com) has some great information that says bands are not experimental. You can also get plenty of before and after pictures to show that bands work. Good luck. Gail, Sam and Sara's mom, DOC grads Insurance > My son is 7 month old and going for his casting tomorrow. Guest guest
Just wondering if you are going to Dr Persing's office at Yale University in New Haven. That is where we went with my son. The casting experience was tough for my son. He cried through the whole process. They put a stocking over their face, with a hole for the nose and mouth, and casted over that. After, we bathed him. They have the facilities there for that. It would help to bring a favorite toy, pacifier, blanket...to comfort your baby. Good luck. ann/ NJ DOCband 2 weeks 5 days > Message: 11 > Date: Mon, 15 Jul 2002 09:42:04 -0400 > From: " Zaffaro, J. " <ajz@...> > Subject: RE: Insurance > > It is the DOC band. Guest guest
Hello and welcome to the group. Sorry to hear about the trouble with the insurance, however, it is unfortunately an all too common thing. Since it is a DOCband you should be able to get materials from the CT clinic when you go for the casting. Ask them specifically for material that shows that the band is not experimental. Definitely check out our files section and also check out www.plagiocephaly.org/support for some more insurance help information. You might also want to check out our Bookmarks section. You have the right to appeal and usually the appeals process is a several level process. So even if you lose the first appeal you usually have two or three more tries. Definitely keep after it - so many people here have appealed and won (I'm one of them!). Keep good records, document ALL phone calls and keep copies of everything. The casting process is usually a little stressful, but it is very quick and is over before you know it. The most important thing to remember is that even though your baby might get mad or upset, he is not being harmed or hurt in any way. Try to take someone with you and take some comfort items (bottle, pacifier, blanket, stuffed toy) and also take some toys that make noise or music to distract him. After the casting is over he will get to take a bath so you might want to take your own shampoo and towels. Best of luck and please let us know how the casting goes!! Guest guest
Hi there! Are you from Connecticut? Are you going to Cranial Technologies in Clinton? If so, Lynne Ball is great. Our casting with Timmy was at 9 months and went much better than we had expected. We'll actually be there tomorrow morning for an adjustment. Sorry, can't help with the insurance. I actually have Anthem BCBS of CT, but I'm not covered right now because I'm on child-rearing leave from work. So, we're covered under my husband's (Oxford) and they paid 75% without any problems. Good luck to you!! ~~ Insurance My son is 7 month old and going for his casting tomorrow. We are very nervous because we have heard some horror stories. We have BCBS in Connecticut. They rejected our claim saying it was experimental. Does anyone know of any articles or information to help our appeal. Thanks For more plagio info

Guest guest
Dear Sandie, Thank you sooooooooo much for all your information. This is a great support group and I truly appreciate your sharing, because it's good to know that Ed will be insured and you never know how many people you have extended a hand to. You could have kept it to yourself. I will pass this on to my son, who only has major medical. He is paying for all of his medical bills out of his pocket and although he thought he was invincible, a few weeks ago, he found out he wasn't. The C of C, who woulda thunk it? My DIL is an accountant and my nephew is an attorney, so I will tell him he will need them to do the leg work, too. He already has the corporations for his businesses, so he can probably run it through one of them; however, there is the possibility with our state laws that he will have to offer it to all his employees. It's a start if he wants to follow through. As for Jimmy, this wasn't a good day for him either because he said he hasn't been sleeping and is exhausted. The food is tasteless because it isn't seasoned. Normally we have good hospital food here. They had me on a restricted diet when I had a stroke and heart attack and I told them if they brought me another tasteless meal, I would refuse to eat it. He needed someone to stay with him because he's been having panic attacks, so I hired a sitte and she came immediately, so that was luck. I don't think I could last the night in that chair and the temperature. I used a pillow to shield my chest from the cold and I was wearing a wood blazer besides. If anyone can tell me how to fight the cold, I would pay a king's ransom. Maybe I am missing a vitamin or mineral. I know it's my hemoglobin, but there must be something that can spike it. I was never this cold on any other trial. What an advocate you are to Ed and anyone who experiences the same problem. You not only have nursing skills, but business acumen, a good combination. Jimmy was taken down the hall for a walk, held up by two CNA's, which is not much, but I guess it's a start. They come by several times a day and also give him inhalation therapy and blowing into that plastic contraption that looks like it could be a hampster playground. LOL I tried to help him up, but he teeter totted all over the place and I lay him back down. I can't hold him up. I hope Ed is doing well on Gleevec, does he have another BMA scheduled soon? I hope he has few side effects. There's lots of hope out there, Sandie, and new trials in California. The cancer centers along the coasts seem to have all the trials. MDACC has a clinic in a hospital in New Orleans, so I may look into that to see what kinds of specialists they will be having. Beats driving to Houston and 3 tanks of gas. Keep us posted as to Ed's progress, as well. Thanks a bunch xoxoxox Lottie
