Guest guest
Dear Matt, I couldn't find anything on Wyeth's Basatanib in my searches. The closest I could find in spelling is Wyeth's Bosutinib which is SKI 606. That is the drug I am on. There are only about 69 patients in his group world wide. I don't know why they would say it is not being heavily pursued. Did you attend a seminar? That must have been very interesting and how lucky that you got to go. Did they mention any side effects of these drugs? Blessings and questions, Lottie
Guest guest
Lottie: I did not go to any seminar and I do not profess to be a great speller. My oncologist is heavy into research and is aware of all the latest and greatest advancements. Each time I visit him, I try to remember all the questions that people have posed on this board and take the time to ask him. At the same time, he updates me on any pertinent facts regarding medications advancements and research. For instance, last time I visited him, I took a question to him that Tracey had regarding T-Cells and Sprycel, to which he candidly answered " there is some-thing there, but it is too soon to determine if it a positive or a negative. " Not exactly earth shaking information. However, this time we discussed vaccines which had been mentioned previously. One of the vaccines, he previously pioneered when he was at Sloan-Ketterling. Then he began to tell me about third generation drugs, like the Wyeth, which you said you were on. I believe he said that this one showed much promise against mutations, but that FDA approval would more difficult than Sprycel and Tasigna because it was a third generation drug. Also, the profits for a third generation drug were not as great, so Wyeth did not seem to be putting the " full court press " for approval. Next time I will take the time to record or at least take notes because some things get lost in the 4 hour drive home. Sorry about the confusion.
