Guest guest
I take mine at night - I try to wait about 1/2 hour until I lay down. But, I cannot compare it to taking in the morning. I take it at night to sleep through the minor nausua it causes. A few times I get sidetracked and don't go to bed.... I feel crummy. I can't imagine feeling that way all day. Has anyone noticed a difference in fatigue levels during the day by taking the medication at night rather than during the daytime? 5 years ago when i was diagnosed, I was told not to take it at bedtime due to digestive issues (reflux?) -- but that may be old thinking? Any other suggestions re fatigue are greatly appreciated. best to all, Kathy dx 5/03 gleevec 400 mg PCRU
Guest guest
the only reason I know for not taking it at bedtime is, you are not supposed to lie down directly after taking the pills. Maybe an hour or so before? Guest guest
Hi Kathy, I've done it both ways. For the first 5 years I took it with supper and now for the last year or so, I've taken it with breakfast. I can't say that I've experienced any real difference in terms of the fatigue or any other side effects though. The main reason I changed from supper to breakfast was because I wanted to get it out of the way first thing in the morning and not have to dread taking it all day long. I'm much busier in the mornings so when I get the nausea, I'm more distracted with everything I'm doing (getting the kids out the door, showering, cleaning up etc) so the nausea seems to be a bit less severe (I know it's just because I'm more distracted though). At night, I usually just sit and watch the news after supper so the nausea was a real focus since I wasn't distracted like I am in the morning. They usually don't recommend that you take it right before bed because if you have gastric reflux, it'll burn your esophagus and cause you problems. > > Has anyone noticed a difference in fatigue levels during the day by taking the medication > at night rather than during the daytime? > > 5 years ago when i was diagnosed, I was told not to take it at bedtime due to digestive > issues (reflux?) -- but that may be old thinking? > > Any other suggestions re fatigue are greatly appreciated. > > best to all, > Kathy > dx 5/03 > gleevec 400 mg > PCRU >
Guest guest
Hi Kathy, I used to take it at breakfast (for 2 years) and now I take it at lunch, because it is more convenient (I often skip breakfast) and lunch is a bigger meal. Although I think I am getting used to the drug, as I took it several time out of a meal without getting nauseous. I think we have to be empirical and try what works for us. Also it may be that the drug is better assimilated with a bigger and fattier meal, as the improvement of my test results coincides pretty well with switching to lunch.
